I had a mess of these at one time: A No.1 Mk I*** from 1906, a jungle carbine, savage, long branch, ishapore and even a wire wrapped grenade launching variant. I lost interest and traded 'em for other stuff. I have missed the No. 4 the most, so when I spotted this 1949 Fazakerly in decent shape at a decent price I grabbed it. She's sixty and the bolt and mag serial #s don't match, but they hardly ever do. Once the headspace is given the greenlight (When I get the gauges) she'll head for the range...

I have a original no 1 mk***. My dad has one that has been sporterized with an old Tasco scope from the 60’s on it. So one day I’m trying to sight in the old scope. I can’t get the scope dialed in and after a bit of frustration decided the old scope done. So I pick up the unaltered SMLE war horse to see if its sighted in cause everybody that looks at it has to mess with the 2000 yard rear sight. I fire the rifle and there was a loud BOOM!!! I’m stunned. I look at the old rifle thinking it blowed up. It looks ok. As my tunnel vision opens up I saw my hearing protectors on the bench. Cool old rifles. I would like to have one of them long bayonets for it.

I bought surplus British 303 from Woolworths in Denver to feed my first SMLE: 72 round pasteboard cartons made in the 50s. I fired a couple of these boxes, then began reading that the brit surp was unstable: pulled a bullet and discovered the ammo was loaded with cordite. I decided then and there to pull the rest of the bullets... and later learned that just pulling bullets on those were dangerous. Check Sarco for bayonets... I think they have some 1907s.
