I’ve been visiting this second model hand ejector caliber .44 sp. incarcerated in a local pawn shop for half a year now and have decided to liberate it with $350.00. It has been refinished but it’s a good refinish job not all buffed out. 5 inch barrel with stag grips. Here is a picture.

Nice going. I have owned several of the second models over the years and all were good shooters.

Every time I went there I was suprised to see it. 350 for a n frame 44 I thought was a good deal. The stag grips are selling for 200 at the local gun shows. So after seeing it in this mom & pop shop since summer I took it home.

For $350, I'd have to liberate it, too!
It might be the lighting of the picture, but those stocks look like jigged bone to me rather than stag. Jigged bone was very popular back in the time that gun was made and used.

Cubrock, The grips are jigged bone. In a long ago thread these types of grips were discussed and it was told that jigged bone was stag. That’s why I called them stag. They have a lot of pith or marrow showing on the inside of the grips like the elk grips I have seen. I took it apart and cleaned it yesterday. Inside felt like varnish and axle grease. Its a lot smoother now. I finally had a chance to take some better photos of it. Still looking for a chance to take it to the range. Here is a group photo of my Smith & Wesson 44 specails.
