I made up close to 1k of this from starline brass some years back for a few people, cold winter and I was bored. I had a full bull Virgin Valley 256. I forget what the twist was but I never could get it to shoot worth a darn past 100. I passed on a 25-35 AI barrel with dies. Have often wished I had tried it but the 256 caused me grief and I shied away from it.
Lee, did your dad find the welding on the barrel cause any grief as far as warping or making the chamber cut hard. I ask because I ran across a gent that does the stub barrel for the TC's and other tip open single shots. His claim was that just using the stub and threading it with a new barrel had no stress from welding. There are those that do that and rechamber these type barrels, yet offer no new barrels because they don't or won't weld the lug on. I figure it was as David described above, they just can't weld, properly. Jeff

After some years of hunting I finally scored a .256 Win barrel! It’s just the 10” octagon but I’m hoping it does some good work. I have a couple of nifty Miha molds that could use a new job. I can’t remember if I have dies and I need to find a hundred cases and see about all this excitement….

I'm looking forward to seeing the Martini as well. A local guy built a .22 K Hornet on a Martini action for himself years ago. It's one of the coolest little single shots I've seen, and it is literally a tack driver.

I have a Dan Wesson here that I've been trying to fit into the rotation
Also have a cool looking modern brass mould for gas check bullets that would be just the thing...
I've been working steady 12 hour days for the past few months Getting time to goof off is the hardest thing lately

I anneal virgin .357, neck to .30 in a home-made die, then FL size in the .256 die. I re-anneal and fire-form. Since I posted this a few years back, I've made them this way on Starline brass. They've held up well. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

But his is nearly identical to my .218 Bee Martini. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time'

One more thing. Some of you may have noticed the scope is mounted backwards on my .256 Contender (first post). I had it on another barrel, swapped it to this .256, and never looked through it before snapping a photo. That was quickly fixed. I really should update the picture. It's kind of embarrassing. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Looks good. I'll have to see if that guy has a pic of his Martini some time.

you wouldn't be the only one to that with a scope BTW... I loves me those Martini's... I have 4 in various calibers... mine are all 30-30 & bigger though
