Glad the prognosis is good for your brother Robb.
Ya' know, it's tricky.
I just saw my Dad a couple weeks ago and he told me he had suffered from a number of small strokes. I had noticed his memory getting a little worse during phone conversations but Hell, so is mine.
He said he was asked to stop working and for the first time I saw true fear in my Dad's eyes.
He's 78 and that's all he's ever known. I have no idea what he's going to do with time on his hands and neither does he.
In actuality they're going to keep him on as a consultant so it may not be as bad as I fear.
He lives in a sprawling suburban area with no outdoor activities close by.
At some point it may be best just to keep going.....
Everybody's different and has to find their own path. Then of course, if the good Lord steps in...well...I need to really pay attention and overcome my will to do otherwise.
Me, I plan on trying to hang in another 7 years. After that I figure between my defined benifit plan and the Fed (if it survives) I should be way good.
Fortunately I live close enough to everything I need and want to stay busy. from the house the National Forest is 500 yards, the hospital (EEK!) is 5 blocks and the grocery store is about 1.5 miles.
Blessed.....

Hope everything works out for your brother. I gave up a job that I loved. Just couldn't do the hours and the activities that I did. I sacrificed time with the kids growing up. I have a great wife and she understood my drive to be successful. Six months ago I started a lower stress, lower pay job and am pretty happy. I got 28 months until the big retirement. But I still will find a job to work 15-20 hours a week.
