A big thanks to both of you! I will keep an eye out for another one, .44 Special just seems to be the perfect round for a CCW revolver. I hated taking it back, but just had a bad feeling about this one, sometimes it's just better to cut bait, as Granddad would say

Salvo, I really like the .44 Special it's a great cartridge & there are some pretty good defense loads out there for CCW. When you handload in a large frame it really takes on a whole new personality it's a great cartridge & I know you'll like it. Good luck & keep looking. Frank

I had a new 44 Charter Arms a couple years ago. Rough double action trigger, nice single action trigger. Never could smooth out the double action pull. I liked the ideal of a 44 the size of a Detective Special. I was on the range doing some training and at lunch one of my assistance wanted to shoot it. I told him were it and the ammo was. He got it and starts shooting it. I go to shoot it also and realized after the first shoot I had the wrong ammo for it. I had mistakenly brought the skeeton load (7.5 gr. unique) to the range not standard 44 sp. My friend had not shoot it much but it didn’t take much to shoot it loose.

Keep your eyes peeled for a Rossi 720, it's a 3 inch stainless 44 spl. They were made in a 3 inch adjustable sight version and also in a 3 inch fixed sight version with a bobbed hammer. Yes it's a Rossi, but the two I've had were both good guns. It's about the same size as the much sought after 3 inch Model 19/66. Full size pic ... www.hunt101.com/data/500/Rossi720-2.JPG

Those Rossi 720's were good guns for the money....and they were a little better built than the Charter Arms Bulldog. Always wanted one myself. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I've owned a 720 since 1994 or so. It's shot great all of these years and have been my carry piece since.

Michael....you won't happen to have a picture of the Mag-Na-Port version, would you? Sounds neat, but I don't recall ever seeing one. -Lee www.singleactions.com

It's a hit and miss deal with Charter (these days for sure).

New here..I am suprised that none of the larger Manufactures have never explored the concept the way Charter has..Sure they have their 5 shot 44 Specials, but not like size of the Charter Arms Pug

I felt (and still feel) that when S&W was coming out with their scandiums and what not, they were merely reinventing the charter. I sure wish Ruger or someone would do the polymer grip frame treatment on a 44... and I eagerly await the Charter 45 acp. I feel sort of stupid for the "just shoot it" advice I gave earlier in this thread, yet I stand by it... if you put a cylinder full through it and it spits, ship it back.

Not bad advise at all Hoss! I kinda wish I would have taken it, but it just was not right and if I shot it I couldn't return it. I just hate the shipping game with handguns. I may live in Vegas, but I'm not much of a gambler.

That makes me feel a little less like an idjit... thank you salvo. And yeah, with some companies the return game can be kinda hit and miss... (like navy arms, taurus or H&R...) so I understand completely.
