Was talking with the better half and said I wanted to go to a game ranch for a meat shoot. After some discussion and investigation we decided to go on our wedding anniversary. She going to shoot a hog with her Rem 788 243win. I am going to shoot a Longhorn or Scottish Highlander's with my Bowen Perfect Bisley 45Colt.

Good for you, taking the wife on your anniversary & sharing a hunt together, that's awesome! Will be interesting to see how your hunt goes on the bigger animals & what bullet you choose. I'm sure your excellent 45 will be up to the task. Good luck to both of you.

The 45Colt will be shooting a cast NOE 454-265wfn at Bri 12 lubed with White,s Caranuba Red. As for the charge leaning toward 11gr of HS-6 but have to get to the range and shoot some. Thinking that this bullet at about 1000-1050 will get the job done.

I like your recipe. I use an Accurate Molds 280 LFN style (.452" WW + 2% tin) with 12 - 12.5 grains of HS6 often. I have no idea of the velocity as I never bothered to check. I do know it shoots day in and day out and that's all that really matters. Boringly consisent.....
I'm an accuracy chaser and will do and spend a lot to get it. When I find a load and a gun that shoots well, I tend to move on to the next challenge. I do keep good records though.
Not that you need me to tell you, but I think your recipe will work quite well. Good shooting to you Sir!
Edited to add that when I lube, I also use White Label lubes, BAC and Carnuba Blue. I do use a magnum primer when using HS6 regardless of caliber and tend to load it towards a maximum load (still a medium load by definition). I read this before I started using this powder and it works so I never saw a reason to change.

Not much luck is needed as the hunt is behind fence just shy of a mile square but still fenced!

I don't think the Scottish Highlanders have the mean disposition of some of the other bovines... but any animal can be dangerous... the buffalo pics I've put up before, were all about the same... about a square mile fenced area... don't forget to buy her flowers, jewelry, or take her out to a nice dinner for her anniversary ( in celebration of your shooting success (s) ) since she's doing something you wanted to do... gotta keep momma happy

All my Highlander's were pussy cats. The biggest issue was the horns as they crowded around to get fed or scratched. That said, the skull does turn out way cool when properly prepared after they are butchered. Oh and in my opinion their meat is the best I have eaten of all the breeds I've raised over the years. Grass finished, no grain and still tender and vest flavor.

She has hunted with me before. Having kids and going to school was the cause of her break for it. She has gotten two whitetail bucks and a few does with her 243! As for flowers or jewelry I buy them just because not because I have too but a great dinner is a win\win as I get to go too!
