Ok, today I have to do some project updating here. My good friend and brother Scott has sent his Ruger 454 off to Killebrew Design and Manufacturing,LLC where is it some getting some really cool upgrades. JohnK does not specialize in sixgun work, however he is one of my very best friends and someone ALL of my other very best friends admire a great deal. kdmcans.com/purchasing/It most certainly is not my place to reveal Scott's project, but I was thrilled to have a part. I do want to say that Killebrew retained both the 6 1/2" barrel length and the long ERH AND restored the lines that lend balance to the factory unit. Hopefully we will have a photo sooner than later of Scotts "new" 454. More, I was just elated that JK listened to and approved of my own ideas. He is going to make a couple of "one of" special parts for me so I am pretty stoked. I have a few other rats to kill to get everything in order for this deal, including finding a way to get BILL FOWLER TO THE POST OFFICE PULEEZE... It's so tough being subtle sometimes....

Wish Winchester or Marlin would follow thru with a 480 lever action like they proposed several years ago....

I'd settle to find a good price on a blued Rossi, but yes a Marlin would be nice! Fermin, I feel that the long ejector rod on a 6.5" barrel gives the gun the same look as the 5.5" gun. Like Mr. Sixshot says, all it needs is a barrel band.

Well, as always I'm running behind. By the time I get my 480 Ruger up and running Dick Thompson will have already killed a couple Elk. Huey will have built another dozen custom sixguns. And I haven't even loaded a single round yet. What I have done is installed the Bowen Rough Country rear sight. What I did different with that thing was to crank it all the way down. I intend to lock it there and file the front sight as needed. I am pretty sure that is the way it was intended to be used. I don't have any real intention of doing a whole bunch of load development/experimentation because as far as I can see Dick and Glenn running Miha's bullet have killed Elk and Bison with moderate loads so why reinvent that wheel? We do have some great big hogs down here and this rig should be quite the ticket puncher. I have checked my particular 480 Ruger with pin gauges and other than the throats being a generous .477" everything seems to be good to go. Even better, my buddy Bill Fowler just happened to have a .477" Star sizing die he didn't need and sent it down along with a couple of small parts I needed for this job. Next I need to get a trigger job accomplished, the factory job isn't too bad, but I bet a little smoothing couldn't hurt. So I guess the next thing is to find out if I have enough front sight height or not....

Sounds good. I've dry fired mine several thousand times. Well, i cock it and lay my thumb between hammer and frame and pull the trigger. The hammer drops about 1/4" before hitting my thumb. I then move the hammer back to full cock and repeat. Keeps from slamming the transfer bar and firing pin and has really smoothed it out. Can do that while watching tv with the wife and it doeant startle her every time the hammer slams home.
