Just picked up a 357 magnum and was thinking of rechambering it to 357 maximum what do you all think of rechambering to a 357 maximum I can't speak to the specifics of rechambering your Sterling, but I imagine it will be strong enough to handle the Max. I do think highly of a single shot 357 Maximum handgun. I say try it. It's not like you will lose any collector value.

Too update, and add to this thread, I took the Sterling to Wilderness Hunting Preserve yesterday and shot this hog with it. I have never found a photo of an X-caliber actually used to hunt. The Federal 240 JHP was decisive to say the least. ***** cmnash.... decisive, indeed, on IHMSA steel as well as live meat. Federal 44A .44 Mag 240 JHP may be the only commercial load to win championships and set records in Handgun Silhouette. From a Ruger Silhouette Super or Silver Hornpipe, or a magical M-29 8-3/8”, or and Dan Wesson M-44 VH8, I could not tell the difference between the championship Sierra 240 JHC and its look-alike Federal 240 JHP. Deer slain with the Federal 44A were mountain runners, but the pigs rolled include only the domestic variety, although not point blank execution. Rather, with a lung shot on the line of the front leg. I came to trust the Federal 44A on the silhouette Firing Line, in the Big Woods, and around the pig pasture. Before reaming a sterling-X .357 Mag to .357 Maximum, I’d thoroughly test its accuracy in .357 Mag. If it passes there, it should deliver similar accuracy from the Maximum. The .38 Special, .357 Mag, and .357 Maximum are each inherently accurate cartridges. I should hope strength would not be an issue in the Sterling-X. David Bradshaw
