Alaskan moose..... 1) I dropped the camera in the water and only got one photo....2) Next morning took pic of my FA`s 44mag and antlers.... 3) mounted moose horn.... Shot 300gr Punch through lungs and put one up the rear as he turned and ran with guides 375H&H..... The recovered 375 only went a few inches as it was an early X bullet that started to expand but bent in half.....

I've always wondered about how those punch bullets do in the 44. How fast were you running it and how deep did it go? Assuming broadside went all the way through?
I bet he didn't like that 375 in the spot it landed, I like a bullet that can do the trick from any angle, and would like to go elk hunting this fall with 44 mag.

I don't think anyone could say anything bad about the Punch bullets, they have a great reputation on Bucks, Bulls & Bovines. I haven't used them but many forum members have & I'm guessing the Punch bullets might be the penetration king on big animals. I did use a 270 gr. Speer Gold Dot once on a cow elk & got complete penetration with my Super Redhawk 44. I've taken 11 other elk using cast bullets in the 41, 44 & 45 & never recovered one yet. Some were double shoulder shots. Nice moose James, that's odd about the 375 shot up the pie hole!

I like a bullet that can do the trick from any angle, They were running around 1250fps because I used the top crimp groove to fit the short FA`s cylinder....That bullet can reach the vital from any angle and with the cost of the hunt I was`ent taking any chances... I know those bullets well.....

Dick, I think that would be the fertilizer hole, the pie hole is the other end.😀
Nice Moose James, moose is one of my bucket list animals, either with handgun or traditional levergun.

I stand corrected! I saw 37 moose in my 27 days of hunting (close to home) passed twice on a dandy because he was still in velvet, probably 46". I have several minutes of video on him but didn't pull the trigger, had him under 15 yds once. Never could find him later, bummer! Had my wife with me both times & my son was filming & I didn't bust him. I've never looked at that video in 12 years. He would have made B&C if he would have been hard horned, oh well. I think sometimes James down plays his shooting ability, don't fall for it, he's a very accomplished sixgunner!

Dick Dick, Larry Weison (don`t know how to spell his last name) took a 44" Shiras the year before me because it was top "Handgunned Moose" in NAHC and it was gigantic. The one you saw in velvet was a MONSTER. For what its worth, I was lucky to receive the same NAHC award in 1999....

Getting off topic a bit & not sure I'm spelling his name right either but I watched a hunting show once where Larry Wheishun was hunting white tails in Iowa I think, might have been somewhere else. Anyway, he was packing a TC Encore in 460 S&W with a scope & the guide got him on a really good buck at about 40 yds or so, whatever the distance it was pretty close. I was amazed that they even showed the video, he missed it by probably 4 feet! The shot was so low it was almost off camera, you really had to look to even see the impact. He had flinched so bad I felt sorry for him, we've all done it, probably just not on camera & had it run on TV. Stevie Wonder could have killed it with a wet kleenex & he missed it right at it's feet.

I`ve seen Larry W. miss shots on game more times on hunt shows then any other handgun hunter they broadcast... He was in a box blind shootin his -06 Encore and I believe he missed 2 or 3 times.... He is honest about his shots....... The one thing he owns that I wish I had is an experimental handgun scope made by Zeiss.... I contacted them and they said they made only 1 or 2 he has one of them.... dammm

James, you are right! We've all missed & I think we are honest about it, we just don't show it on TV.

He had flinched so bad I felt sorry for him, Dick Dick, Not that I`am a great shot but I felt almost embarrassed watching him shoot.... Your right about not being on TV.... I still want that Zeiss handgun scope
