From $0 to $400 overnight without warning is not the way to do business. Now they are holding millions of pictures hostage. I don't mind paying but $400 is not my number.

Based on what was happening on other forums, I downloaded all of my photos off of PB last night (Close to 5000 pics!).
This morning I saw that all of my photos on this and other forums were no longer there. I checked my SPAM folder on my email and saw that I got an email from PB on Thursday notifying me that they were disabling certain features on my account, mainly the ability to link my photos to forums.
When you download your folders from PB, they are put into zipped files. I just finished making new folders on my computer and extracting the photos from each zipped file into their respective folders. I am now using Postimage.com for my photo hosting.....

I dumped pb about 3 years ago. Smugmug @$40/year it's hassle free and works like a charm. + 1 on Smugmug. I've been using them for a few years now and couldn't be happier. Very user friendly, no pop ups and minimal cost. My plan is $60 a year. I started using them because of my work on the north slope in Alaska. The internet on site is screwed down pretty tight and I couldn't access Photobucket but Smug Mug works fine.

Photobucket couldn't stay free forever. A large image host like that has a HUGE overhead, both in server storage, processor, bandwidth and support staff. Most people have no clue that just to have enough bandwidth to support the site costs thousands of dollars per month. The ads are what pays the bills and kept it "free". I'm surprised it has taken this long. The adblocker software is probably what eventually triggered it. This is why I pay $40 a year for ImageEvent and never have this or any other problem. My personal solution was to use their "download as a zip file" link on their site to copy all my photos back to my own computer. I then uploaded them onto my own website. I will display them from there. You should go to www.register.com and look into getting your own website. Upload your photos there and you need no third party hosting to display them on forums. Getting your own website is actually cheaper than paying the $399 a year that photobucket is trying now to charge people. All you need is your own website and an FTP program to upload your photos to it. www.Coffeecup.com is a good free downloadable FTP program. FTP = File Transfer Protocol.

This is the only forum that seems to require a host site to post pics, at least that I frequent. I do wish it weren't so as its SO much easier to post pics directly from ones own devices. PB sucks.

This forum and my other daily favorite www.Rugerforum.com are my two daily favorites. Both of them require a hosting site to post pictures. They are also the best forums on the net and don't beat you up with ads. I think that Lee does a good job providing this free forum for us, maybe you don't?

I do indeed agree with that, what makes you think I don't? But it is a PITA to have to load pics to another site to load them here, don't you think? As to the free part, no forums I am on cost anything.

I know for a fact that it costs money to keep ProBoards ad-free, in addition to the regular cost of having a forum. I pay it every month.
I never really considered it a pain to pay for a site to host my pictures. It's a valuable service.

In the same boat. Hated photobucket for quite a while but too lazy to move. Do any of these other sites have photo editing on site . I got to have cropping and light/ contrast control. My camera is old and crappy.

Flickr does but I don't use it very often so I don't know how intuitive it is to use.

Ok, I'm computer stupid & need a little help.
caryc,,, you mentioned; ""download as a zip file" and I was trying to do that. Well, I went to PB,, found my library, found the "download" tab,, but nowhere did it give me an option of a zip file. Could you be so kind as to post baby step instructions as to how to get my library of pics to download to my computer? (Miss Penny isn't any help, as she doesn't fool with picture hosting sites & is lost as well.)
