Everyone gives the 50GI crap because they want it to be something it is not. If you want power go to 50AE, 50JRH or 500 S&W.The 50GI is a great round, I have 2 Glock conversions, 2 encore barrels and several DI AR-15 uppers. I shoot 250gr bullets to 506gr (yes 506gr in the encore and AR suppressed) it really comes into it's own with 350-400gr bullets. I have several custom molds for it and it shoots amazingly. In the Glock conversions I run 250gr-350gr bullets @ 850-1000 fps. I would love to get a Redhawk converted to 50GI (5 shot with Dan Wesson barrel system in 4", 6",8" and 10") as an all around woods gun, yes there are other calibers that would do but I like to be different. I am saving for a JRH conversion then plan to get the GI built.

Thanks for the information 41freak. I wonder how fast a 350 WFN could be pushed from say a 4 5/8" barrel? I don't cast due to space, but I sure wish someone made a lightweight WLN in .50. I figure it would allow more powder room and since I will load it into a revolver I am not too concerned with OAL. I would love to see or hear about your loads since most information I can find is either factory ammo or factory bullets from GI.

From left to right, 250gr, 370gr, same mold converted to HP and 350gr, 400gr, 506gr and 540gr. All these designs are avaliable from Tom at Accurate Molds. I will get mold numbers and post them with the mold pics.

Here is the 265gr bullet I drew up but have not yet had a mold cut for it. It is meant to be powder coated or Hy-Tek coated. I may re-draw it with a little bigger meplat and bump the weight up to 270-275gr.

Those 500+ grain boolits are sexy. A 350 at 850 is serious horsepower in my book. Plenty for deer, hogs, or black bear. I would think you get more out of it in the revolver cylinder since it is not bound by the magazine.

I do it with the 500gr bullets in my encore and AR15. I am planning to hunt hogs with to soon and think it will do just fine, deer should be good as well if they get in range but for them I would use the 250gr cast and get it up to 1000-1100fps.

Over on the castboolits forum is a gentleman named BT_SNIPER he makes swage dies and makes a universal notch die, for HP bullets. I use it for swaged and cast HP bullets. For cast I notch the HP and leave it as is. For swaged bullets I notch the HP then run it back in the point form die and the bullets look like XTP bullets. The ones in the pic are pure lead and HI-TEK coated and expand very well.
