Heavy C, I don't even have a clue where the closest sillouette range is located here in Oregon. I had it built strictly for hunting.

It's lovely. Who did the CCH? Any chance of a detail shot of the hammer well?(when you get it) I'd like to see how that played out. In a 5 shot 414, 5 bucks says your primer pockets go before your cases stick. Gonna push it north of 50K? I am personally happy to see another Harton gun get finished. Means mine moves up a spot in the schedule...also a .41. I just got my first minor project back from Alan, and it has whetted my appetite for a major one. John Taffin has written about being involved in the early stages of develpment of the Supermag cartridges. He might even own one of the few 414's the DW factory ever made. I was rereading some 414 articles today while plotting on my own Harton 41 project. Per G. Fryxell, there were only 25 original DW 414's made - but 100K pieces of brass. The 445 intially stalled due to brass availability, so Gates had some made in advance - then I think DW went under. I think the brass available today is still from that original run. Nuevo DW is making them again, I believe.

I am not sure who Alan had do the CCH John. I know sometimes he uses a person down in his area rather than Turnbull. I'll try to get some more pictures once it arrives. I doubt I'll ever push it that hard, I'm too old to want to get beat up on purpose. I'll leave that to you young bucks.

That is very nice!
You'll love that cartridge in a revolver. Being an owner of one of the original Dan Wessons in .414 SuperMag, I can tell you it is a superb round. AA-1680 and Lil Gun are also good powders in this case.

I second the suggestion on AA1680 powder. My 414 groups best with it under 230 - 265 grain cast bullets. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Thanks for the powder recommendations guys, looks like I need to find some AA1680. I'll use 250-265 grain cast bullets exclusively so if you have any great data for those with begining load recommendations you would be willing to PM I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Robb

Axe, you have way too many cool guns already. You wouldn't want any more of my old pieces.

I'm curious. I know this is a 5shot 414, but how does a 5shot 41 Mag compare to a 6shot 414? Can you duplicate 414 performance in a 41 Model 83?

Boy, I know my 5 shot FA 83 in 41 mag is stout but I don't see how it can overcompensate for a 5 shot cylinder that handles a 1.6" case. May be able to but I like my FA too much to try it. Someone like Lee with a lot more load dvelopment experience may tell me I'm all wet on that statement but I've sure as heck been wrong several times today already so once more wouldn't shock me.

I'd like to see Reeder's 41 GNR #2 data to compare too... How about the 410 GNR... Talking about a 445 necked to 41 and a 454 necked to 41 respectively... I'd guess that just like the FA 83 in 357 the FA 83 in 41 mag will be limited by case capacity. Didn't JT publish some FA 83 only 41 mag data?
