I can get one of the subject guns for $350. Should I?
I put this here since it's a roll your own, rather than in the other handguns area.
I imagine it would sit nicely in the "what the hell was I thinking" section of the safe with the herter's 401. ;D

Absolutely! A true 41 cal auto with a 9mm casehead! And it was considered such a GOOD idea when it first surfaced. See if the source has dies and brass! Might ask about bullet molds too!

Just for the sake of curiosity, could 7.62x39 brass be resized and the rim cut down to make .41 AE brass?

Tex, the original brass was made out of .41 magnum brass. Aggie if you decide to get it I have 400 pcs. of new IMI brass.

You don't mention which model it is, so I can't comment on the price, but .41 AE in a semi auto would be a hoot!
I'd like to have one of these in Hunter or competition model in 10mm.

Tex, the original brass was made out of .41 magnum brass. Yeah, I know. The 7.62x39 is .443" above the rim; the .41Mag/.41 AE is .435" above the rim. The .008" difference isn't very much, (if the chamber is sloppy, could might be ideal), the 7.62x39 is less expensive than .41 Mag, should be just as capable of handling the pressure and I would think it wouldn't require as much cutting for the extractor groove/rim. That is if 7.62x39 brass would work....which is what I was asking because of my extremely limited experience with this kind of stuff. Personally, if I had one of these and some original ammo/cases, I'd shoot the gun with a substitute and keep all the original ammo/cases I could find if I ever wanted to resell it.

Let's note that I'm the guy shooting up original herter's 401 factory ammo. ;D
If Kurt and I can make a deal on brass, I'll get this thing. Finding brass was kinda the sticking point for me.

Tex I did not know that the 7.62 brass was that close. The only thing that might keep me from using it is the large rifle primer instead of a small pistol primer. This might cause a problem with ejecting a live round with the ejector hitting the primer, it has happened. Also getting a hard enough blow to detonate a rifle primer could be a problem. I believe Remington 7.62 brass is made with small pockets, and you could try to get old brass from 22 and 6mm PPC shooters to cut down. Food for thought.

I bought it. I was wrong on my first glance at it. Not an EAA Witness, only marked Tanfoglio Model GT41. Got it cheaper than I thought. I got it at Cabela's, and I had a fresh shiny coupon that knocked $70 off a purchase over $300.
Let me get it cleaned up and try to convince my camera to work. Might get a pic tom.

A 41 AE Single Six would probably not last long. I think the pressures are a bit over what the thin chamber walls of a 41 single six can handle sustainably.
