When Alan Harton was building my 414 SuperMag Bisley Hunter, we talked about keeping it a 357 Maximum and turning it into a hunter model but the cost to make the barrel was prohibitive.

I'd buy a .357 Bisley Hunter in a heartbeat. If Ruger wouldn't do a Max frame, seems getting the cylinder re-chambered to a .357 Bain & Davis wouldn't be too difficult.

I won't hold my breath on waiting for a new production 357 maximum.
A Bisley Hunter, I have some interest in 357 magnum. I would want the cylinder as long as possible in the factory window. I would also prefer a bit longer barrel.

I think you stand a much better chance of seeing a .454 or .480 long before a .50. They've already done the work on the platform so the only change would be the barrel. Hey, it's my fantasy, don't spoil my fun 😉 In all seriousness you're right, but I'm keeping my dream of a .50 caliber SBH.

Another 357 mag from Ruger is just that, another 357 mag. Selling and marketing is about differintiation from other products. A maximum could generate lots of interest. We have the SP101, the LCR, the GP100, the Blackhawk, The Redhawk, the Six's, and probably several others. Lots of folks sell 357 mag. Lots of competition. But every 38/357 shooter out there is a potential target audience for something "just a little better".
Ruger has already done a Maximum. It is a phenomenally great wheel gun. The didn't lose it, they just stopped producing it. Which most folks agree was a really stupid decision based on stupid. Some of that knowledge and equipment must still be around. Ruger doesn't have to start over.
A dedicated group of shooters, who know this round, has kept it alive in the face of great odds. Now starline is producing superb brass for the Maximum. There are always rounds available on GunBroker. Several small manufacturers produce the cartridge.
I believe Ruger could make some money (their goal) and own a whole new segment of gunners for years to come.
I'm not ready to quit dreaming.

I have quite a bit of time and dollars into my 44 mag Bisley Hunter. I had it worked over by David Clements and have also put quite an effort into fire lapping it due to some constriction in the barrel. It is now quite a nice shooter and a real sweet heart.
Should Ruger build more 45 Colt Hunters, or a 454 Hunter (or maybe a 480 Ruger) I would buy one asap and have used the "tell the CEO" feature to tell them that.
I don't think I would spring for a 357 mag version, but wouldn't rule it out.
I never really considered a 357 max, but have been thinking about it the last few days and I would likely buy one of those asap also.

You'll get no objection to a max from me, I just don't see it as a realistic request. I think the .357Mag Hunter would be a good addition to the line and would sell well. Very little investment from Ruger and a ready pool of buyers, I can't see anything but a win for Ruger and .357 shooters.

Hey Chief if you're still around,
What all makes a Hunter model different?

Super Blackhawk/"Dragoon" grip frame (or Bisley, if that's yer flavor), 7.5" barrel with rib & factory machined for (& supplied with) scope mounts, along with a more easily replaceable front sight blade.
I can't/won't swear to it, but I've heard that Ruger seems to pay a bit more attention to their limited run models. My .41 Bisley Hunter is definitely one hella nice gun & more accurate than I am.

hey crazycarl,
thanks much, I have a Max and I think it's built on the Super Blackhawk frame with that funny hook on the back of the trigger guard.
The factory machined scope mounts on my Mark II are terrific. Maybe my favorite way to mount a scope.
I think Chief had a great idea trying to push for more Hunter models.

I realize it's not a bigbore or a .32 but I think it would be a darn fun and useful revolver so that's why I'm plugging it. I've been wanting this for years and every so often I go on a little mission to make it a reality. I pester Mr. Fifer and Jason at Lipsey's and ask everyone else to do the same. I never get much traction but I'm hopeful that it'll happen eventually. I know we have some well connected folks here that have helped some other limited production guns get off the ground so I'm asking, how about a little squeeky wheel action for the .357 Blackhawk Hunter. The .38Spl/.357Mag has got to be one of the most popular revolver rounds out there and truth told it's all most folks need in a handgun so why not throw us a bone and take our money? I'll buy two and I can't believe an initial production run wouldn't sell out pretty quick. Thanks for listening. Chief, I chose not to wait. Picked up a spare Bisley 44 spl and made a 7 1/2" 357 out of it.
