I know most of you here like big guns and big calibers, but I have a different gun in mind. I grew up with a NEF .410, I loved it and I was quite good with it.
When I went back to college I moved back in with mom and stepdad and he and I got in a fight when he thought I owed him some money out of the blue. I sold my shotgun for $75 and it killed me but I wasn't about to let him get the better of me.
Now I'm really missing the ol .410 and I would like to have another. I know NEF was bought by H&R, that was bought by Remington, and then discontinued.
Henry is coming out with a .410 single shot and although it would be nice it might just be too nice if that makes sense. I'm not into banging around my guns but it happens occasionally, especially in heavy brush. I could probably find an old H&R at a pawn shop but I'm not sure what they are going for.
It will be a few months before I have any spare change. Any suggestions or comments on the above?

I recently got the chance to check out CVA's new single shot 410 and was very impressed. Seriously suggest you look at them.

I didn't realize that they stopped making the NEF single shot shotguns, when I gave my NEF single shot 12 gauge to my son. I had replaced the wood stocks on it with a set of the synthetic "Survivor" style stocks. I had an extra .410 barrel for this gun that I kept, in the hopes of getting another NEF shotgun that I could use it on. I was able to score another NEF (20 gauge) from an old ranch neighbor for $100.00. Shortly thereafter, I was looking on Gunbroker and found an NEF receiver for $60.00, so I bought that one and installed my old wood stocks and the .410 barrel on it. I am not letting either one of these babies get away from me...... !

I had an H&R .410 as a kid & the deal breaker for me was the Full choke. AFIAC, for typical .410 ranges, a Modified choke is the way to go.
I do have a NEF 20ga youth model with 22" Modified barrel that I love.

Look for a Snake Charmer or Snake Charmer II. I don't recall the manufacturer but Dad has always had one or two floating around. Usually one in the house and one in the travel trailer when we took trips or went hunting.

Yes NEF was bought by H&R and H&R was bought/owned by Marlin which was bought by Remington and then Remington dissolved the single shot company. A real shame since for a while that could have been the best thing they had going. Lol Now Henry and a few other companies are going to pick up the slack and from what I've seen they look really nice and have a leaver like a trap shotgun on the back. There shotguns are at the top and their single shot rifles are about half way down. www.henryrifles.com/henry-rifles-and-shotguns/

If you look around the used shotgun racks you can stumble on one. I found one this past summer that had case colored receiver, a hundred bucks out the door.

I like that brass one with the straight stock. Looks like these Henry's are a bit more money than the old H&R's. My first gun was an H&R 20 gauge that my granddaddy bought for me when I was around 11-12 years old.

I didn't know that H&R was gone, to bad. We've got a little H&R Tamer .410, stainless and black plastic, the butt stock holds 4 rnds . Its pretty small, the wife and kids use it and think its about the greatest thing since sliced bread. We use those Mag-Tech drawn brass .410 cases in it, Im sure they will last forever like the little Tamer. I remember the original snake chamers when I was a kid and always wanted one, so the first Tamer I seen was close enough and came home that day, wishing now that I'd have gotten one for each of the boys.

I have one of the original snake charmers. They were made by H. Koon or, something like that.? I got it for Xmas many moons ago. Great little fun gun... Its accounted for quite a few critters over the years (snakes incl) and I made the best shot of my life on a grouse with that little 410 from the hip. I never did see where I hit that ol'ruffy but, he was just as dead... I just told my dad the other day how I miss the time when I was a kid and, I would walk on the frozen lake near shore and, pop grouse from the brush (spruce & laurel) along the edges! Good times, gone forever in my youth But, never forgotten BigBore44

my 1st gun was a Stevens bolt action single shot .410... I started fixing it up, back when I was a kid... stripped the stock... & that's about as far as I got... My dad bought it for me used... he knew nothing about guns, & it was so heavily worn, that if you put the safety on, you could still pull the trigger... I should pull it out again, & have my fabricator buddy build up the worn part on the trigger, & get the safety functional & start shooting it again... I never had much luck on game... but the smaller squirrels... which I'm currently battling the little red pine devils around the farm right now... I should be shooting it again

When I lived in Wichita I stumbled across a Western Field 410 single shot. It's a store brand Winchester 37. When I cleaned off the years of grease and crud there was a very nice little shotgun under neath. Very slim and trim gun with nice walnut stocks. I need to take a pic next time I'm up at moms.

This brings back memories. My first gun was a Stevens single shot .410 with the lever behind the hammer. It was also my Dads first gun. He passed it down to me, and I still have it to this day.
