What Mike did not know at the time of the purchase is that this Colt has a King Short Action job!! Check out the adjustable sights and the cockeyed hammer: What is the reason for the offset hammer spur? My OCD would be screaming at this. :-) For easier one handed cocking without disrupting your firing grip...right hand, wider on the left...left hand, wider on the right.

Every one I've seen with the cockeyed hammer have the short action.
I think they were part of the package with the hammer install.

Mr. B, that makes sense on a lowered spur such as a bisley or super blackhawk but does not compute in my mind with just an offset unless the spur is lowered in conjunction with it. And then I think of the shortened action and it really doesn't compute since the hammer has a shorter stroke. Never mind, I see the hammer spur is lower than a standard SAA hammer. Ok all is right with the world again. Except for the cockeyed spur which fries my brain. :-0

What is the reason for the offset hammer spur? My OCD would be screaming at this. :-) That hammer spur is set up for a right hander shooting one one handed to have better thumb purchase for positive cocking. I generally cock my sixgun with my left thumb from a 2 hand hold so it works that way as well.

It's a hard time of the year to take on a project like this what with all the holidays and such. I'm chomping at the bit about to break a tooth myself!

Fermin, I really appreciate the time and detail you put into these build thread pictorials. I love the process, but could never muster the patience necessary to do this myself. I guess that's why I just pay a great gunsmith to do my work. And, as you mentioned, all the other "experts" for their knowledge and parts scorunging abilities: Huge thanks to you, too, for making this happen. Without all of you, I'd never get to experience a fabulous build like this. Doug

Always thought a short action would be a nice addition too a SAA. Squirreled this old American Rifleman article away about 30 years ago.
