That looks fine, and like you said it's working gun. Doesn't need the fluff and buff treatment.
Using an airbrush, even a cheap horrible freight airbrush can give you a smooth finish. A warm work area and I warm the part before I paint. Your right about the 300* being hot, burned my fingers too.
