I have looked at the Rokon 2x2 in magazines and online for many years, and thought of getting one. They seem impressive for the size of them.
Anyone here have one or used one?
Thoughts on'em?
Thanks BigBore44

I have no personal experiance with them, seen pics, and read about them some. They look a little heavy and not so agile, maby they feel different than they look. Hopefully someone here can chime in with first hand experience, they are interesting for sure.

The ads in the back of outdoor mags intrigued me for many years too. Never saw one to touch, no one I ever knew had one. The age of ATV/UTV's is upon us. For totally trackless wilderness, they make sense, and likely would be illegal too, so..

I bought a factory demo about 7 years ago
They are different to say the least, pretty rugged and a little noisy, I built my own hitch and use a ice sled to haul out deer and corn.
They'll go like crazy and get into tighter places than a quad.
Like everything in life there are trade offs, quads can pull more, side x sides can do more yet but the Rokons can go steeper for most people than a quad, in the event of a flip you can toss the Rokon, a quad you'll probably get hurt .

BB...I also have been looking at them since forever and ended up buying a 2005 a few months ago.
It was well used but I got it for a good price and it was fun taking it apart and putting it all back together. Fortunately the factory is only 4 miles from my place so anything I needed for parts and advise were instantly available.
As axman said they are a tradeoff. They will go places others can't and are much easier to maintain and fix instead of going to a dealer. That said I think if most people rode a quad and a Rokon most would pick the quad.
There are lots of good videos on YouTube...

Guess at this point in life, am quite happy with my Honda Rubicon ATV. One size up, 6-ply tires, low range option, a machete nyl-tied to front rack, winch, tow hitch in back. Earlier in life, the Rokon would have been an option maybe. See Synd's pics of hauling moose though..liking his trailer rig !

I remember the adds as a kid......pulling a reel mower... "Tell your Wife it's a lawnmower...."
I believe a cosmetics company started them ...........

That is funny...
I gave a lady who has ridden on my Harley a ride around the yard on the Rokon...she asked "why doesn't it sound like a motorcycle?"... I said..."Because it is a lawnmower...".

They're a fantastic machine. I saw and rode one first in 1972 at Tom Nickens' Honda in Lexington KY. I was just a teen kid. He sold them there, along with the Honda, Norton, Bultaco and Hodaka motorcycles.
Nickens and some of his cronies would take them annually out west to hunt with recurve bows. I've seen photos of his Rokon strapped to one skid of a hovering helicopter, with his big mulie buck strapped on the other. Seems to me that I remember him being a friend of and staying with Fred Bear on some of those trips.
I was a sponsored motocross racer for the shop. As such, I had a chance to ride and demo most of the bikes. I recall being dared to ride it up and over a junked VW Beetle sitting on blocks from front bumper to the rear. No problem. It had a tiny little SACHS two stroke engine, full-time front and rear wheel drive, huge chain driven sprockets nearly the size of the hollow aluminum wheels (in which you could carry potable water and/or spare fuel). The ground clearance is a foot or more, the huge tractor like tires get a sure grip. They can easily chug along at low rpm walking pace, angling up super steep loose or muddy inclines if need be. Plus, they can be floated or towed on their side across a body of water. They weighed back then a tad under 180lbs.
I've considered buying one of the new Honda engine powered versions. It wouldn't be a replacement for my big Polaris ATV, but it would make a great adjunct to it.

...this is my 2005 that I bought a few months ago... Have not gotten to use it much as I have been working for a friend painting his rental units...that finally ended last week but now I'm working on a deck that should have gone up last year... Bob
