What's everyone's opinion and experience with the 50 GI. Maybe an interesting stopper in the Glock 21.

No experience with it, but it's got cool factor down solid.

I got a Glock 20 lower and a Guncrafter 50GI Melonite slide a couple of months ago. It shoots exactly where you aim the sights. So far I've shot their 275 grain hp and 300 grain fmj flat point and the felt recoil is equal to a 45acp in my opinion. I got an Alien Gear owb cloak mod holster and have been carrying it frequently. I think it's a great gun and I'd love to have one of their 1911's in 50 GI.

I appreciate the information. I believe I'd prefer the Glock for utility use. Hard to beat this lightweight gun for woods carry.
I am primarily a revolver guy, but this set up intrigues me.

If you're looking for a woods gun, I'd convert to .460 Rowland instead. It has higher velocities that would make for better penetration along with heavy bullets. I just did a conversion on my RIA 1911. The .50 GI is not going to penetrate on larger game IMHO. My main sidearm for the trail is my Glock 20. Just my 2 cents there. Other than that, I think it's a neat round and from what I hear is easy to shoot.

Oh, my bad. I'll admit I have been curious about both the .50 GI And the .40 Super. More about the .50 GI as I'm guessing it would be significantly more pleasant to shoot.

I like mine! Bowen five shot on a 357 mid-frame anniversary New Model. These were CLC micarta grips but it wears Grashorn Dall Sheep grips now. Tim

I love mine, I kinda have gone overboard with the 50GI, I have 2 encore barrels, several AR15 uppers, 2 glock conversions, a threaded barrel for the glock conversion and a suppressor for it and just because....I had a MPA 45 converted to 50 GI. I also have a couple of suppressors for the AR uppers and you would be surprised how quite it is. I have also had some cast bullet molds cut for the 50GI from 250gr to 540gr and no the 540gr does not fit in the 1911 or glock conversions. I run those in the AR suppressed. I have found several loads that are very accurate in the glock conversion using 380-400gr cast bullets and I hope to take a hog with it this year. It is a great round to reload and brass last a long time as long as people do not try to make it into a 50AE or 500 S&W.

41freak, Did you get any cast molds cut in the 300 - 325 gr range? If you did, care to post up a couple of pictures? Thanks! Tim

I honestly think that a 1911 I n .50 GI would be fun, but the prices right now are just way too high for me.

Tim I did have Erik at hollowpoint molds do his HP conversion on one of the molds and with ww+2% tin they run 325gr (the black HY-tek coated ones) and with my soft lead they run 335gr (the as cast one) the molds were cut by Tom at Accurate molds and I will post the mold numbers here so you can go see the dimensions. Even with the big hp they feed great without any issues so far in my guns. If you are looking for something in 300-325gr flat point, Tom can adjust the designs to what weight you want and for the type of lead you want to cast with he is great to work with and his turn around time is very fast.
