The worst part is now I have to decide whether to get a Dillon 650 or step up and get a 1050. My single stage press won't keep up with the amount of shooting and practice that will be required.

You're getting close with that 45. A little more range time and you might get it down...

Tried the steel challenge at a club today... I see that accuracy isn't the key. I can shoot 5 plates in 5 shots in 5 seconds, and the others can shoot the same 5 plates in 12 shots, but in 4 seconds and they win. You're only half right! Spraying and praying only gets you so far. Imagine how fast they would be if they were more patient and hit on the first shot. But you are right, you don't get any extra points for hitting the center of the plate! I just started competing and the knowledge gained is amazing! I'd recommend it to absolutely everyone who wants to be competent with a firearm.

I like my 1050 for my high volume 45 ACP loading. Time seems to be a factor these days and the 1050 gets me to the loading bench and spits out a few 100 rounds in 15-20 minutes. The 1050, with the built in primer pocket swager, is a BIG plus where you might stumble upon crimped primers. I load on a pair of 550s and two Square Deals (SDB) too. The big plus for the 550s is the ease of conversion. The SDB is a lot of loader for the money. The 650s looks good and I did own one for a while but I've never loaded with one. Currently looking for a deal on a nice used 550 or SDB to set up for 10mm. Yeah, I know the idea is to do caliber changes on one machine. I'd rather spend my time loading. My slow loading takes place on the old faithful RCBS Rock Chucker...

One other observation... I was the only one wearing jeans and boots. Everyone else wore shorts and tennis shoes lol

Let me know when you decide to wear shorts. I may show up at that match. Haha
TEK is one of the best handgun shots I know. If he ever gets the really high speed shots down (5 shots on 5 plates in 5 seconds is fast to me!), LOOK OUT!!

I like my 550. Have heard bad things about the 650 primer feed system. I would love a 1050 and that will be what i upgrade to if i ever upgrade. But does the 1050 have the same warranty?

Thanks Joe, but I'm no where near as fast as those guys, nor as good of a shot. I noticed that if they missed the plate more than twice, without fail they hit it dead center the following shot. They slowed just a fraction of a second and aimed, which was still faster than I could do it.
I've got to get a progressive of some sort. My time is limited with my daughters softball schedule so it's taken most of my spare time just to resize, deprime, prime and flare 1000 rounds plus cast and coat a bit over 1000 bullets. I hope to have those loaded later this week and maybe shoot them this weekend.....just in time to repeat

Model 70 Win in .300 H&H. Been tinkering with it some, trying different things, bedding and floating etc. Still wasn't performing like I want it to, so tried some Barnes TTSX bullets, 180 gr with R22. I like Triple SHocks and have had a number of rifles start shooting really well when switching to them, but this is my first try with the tipped one. First group was 4 in well under an inch, 2nd group with a half grain more powder, had them all touch in less than a half inch. Other groups were not as good but the last had the first 3 in a half inch and I jerked or pulled the 4th one out of the group. Oh well. Other gun today was a Parker Hale 7x57. It started out shooting very well, then started throwing flyers. Took it all apart and it could be seen that the factory bedding job was sort of coming apart and the steel stock cross bolt may have been setting back. Not sure which came first. The way it was, was not working so I opted to remove the steel bolt altogether and fill that area with Acra Glass gel. Then I took the round ends off the bolt and glued them back into their holes in the stock side so it looks like the bolt is still there. I shot it a bit on Saturday with 140 Nosler Ballistic Tips and Win 760 and the first two groups were well under an inch. Shot it again today with a different load and pretty much the same result. Its shooting more to my expectations. Sometimes these guns can be a challenge to make them shoot, but I like both of these rifles a lot so don't mind tinkering with them.

Met up with Rob Rowen today to do some shooting. All off of sticks at 25 yards with my .45 Colt Bisley with the six-shot oversized cylinder. Was shooting Garrett 405 grain loads.

Got my favorite .44Mag dirty this afternoon. This time practicing with the 355gr at 1130fps load in preparation for a big critter hunt. Now off to the gym in case I run it dry and end up wrasslin' with it.

Or perhaps carry a big bowie and do it up like Ben Lilly would 😆

Too my JRH .45 Colt Bisley (six-shot oversized cylinder) to the range this morning and I finally figuring this one out. All groups were shot off the bench. The first target is with Garrett 365 grain +P loads at 25 yards (five-shot group). The second is that same load at 50 yards (also five-shot). Next up was Garrett's 405 at 25 yards and then Underwood's 300 grain XTP loads at 25 yards. Garrett 365 - 25 yards Garrett 365 - 50 yards Garrett 405 - 25 yards Underwood 300 XTP - 25 yards
