Is it me or are these blasted sweet or sour beers kind of odd. I like Shiner beers. But that ruby red bird grape fruit is odd, have to say it is refreshing on a hot day like a good sour limeade. Yet still it just doesn't seem proper. On the other hand I like the IPA's which have the zesty bite to them. I can handle the prickly pear beer, just because it is a novelty of sorts. Then I see the have the "best damn root beer". Sounds like a few of those would promote projectile vomiting? I am all for the craft beers and like trying them. Glenn put me on to the Lazy Magnolia beers, which are tough to find around here, but yet an interesting mix. Sweet Potato stout, yet another brewed with pecans. Dang if they would make one bread pudding and praline sauce I would be on that like a duck on a June bug. What do the rest of you like for a summer drink, alcohol or not. A good thirst quencher and so thing to knock the dirt and cotton balls out on a hot day? Jeff

A man has to know his limits!
Something my dad used to refer too be called vinegar pop, his DOB was 2-14-20, so with that in mind folks were poor but so was everyone else. Vinegar, sugar water and some soda for fizz. I still try to make it and have used some good vinegars and it makes an "interesting" NA drink to say the least. Then mom had a recipe for something called "switchel" (spelling) kind of a flat ginger based sweet tea of sorts. The recipe sadly has been lost. I have tried numerous drinks to quench a thirst but nothing has found it's ace as this stuff did when I was a preteen bailing hay in the heat.
IMHO hard to beat a good limeade and heavy on the limes gimme a double. And hold the dang cherries!!!!

Any attempts to alter that paradigm is lost on me.

Ah Whit, what does beer taste like or supposed to taste like? Coors, Bud, Miller,etc...... There is more than chocolate, vanilla and neapolitan. I am sure you have drank several different types in your travels. I have tried several from different countries and have found them to all have their qualities, some good some bad, or at least to my taste. One I have tried is a Thai beer called Singha that I find to be fairly good. I find it funny that I can get import beers easier than craft beers. It's all about the $$$$.
Lol buddy of mine said the best beer is what ever I had and was cold! On another note there are a few that have a better flavor at room temp or less than ice cold. Got that from dad I guess, and I can count on one hand how many beers I ever saw him drink.

I don't care for fruit flavored beer. I'm a rather traditional fella when it comes to beer. I like pilsners, ambers and stouts, not fruit cocktails. However, who am I to deny anyone what they like? But, that's just me!

I may be dating myself here but I think the best beer I've ever had was San Miguel in the Philippines. They say they sell a million bottles a day there and I think I helped them a lot to get up to that number while I was there. The San Miguel that you can get here just isn't the same.

Water for thirst. Gentleman Jack for pleasure. Never did care much for beer of any sort.

You should not be able to see through a good beer! I do like stouts and porters, darker ales, but everyone is different. Ronnie

But, that's just me! Have to agree. The fruit flavored ones make a good marinade for chicken on the grill. I tend to try some of the twelve packs with six different beers. Work pretty good for beer batter fish too. How true on the dark beers. I have come to enjoy the stouts. Forget the brewery, one called pot hole filler a good dark creamy beer, excellent after a good meal.

But, that's just me! True, to each his own, but I have heard these fruity beer wannabe's referred to as "bitch beer". That about sums it up for me. I guess I am entering into curmudgeon land but for me beer can be beer, vodka doesn't need to taste like watermelon, and coffee doesn't need to be french vanilla.

To me the San Miguel I got in the states tasted way better than what I got in SEA. Some of that stuff I could shake up with my thumb over the hole and it wouldn't even foam much less spew. Also you didn't dare take a big swig without holding the bottle up and checking it for a dead mouse, cigarette butt, or big cock roach bottled up with the suds. I did learn to drink it hot by the case, but the USA import stuff was way better. Also that rice beer in the tall bottles they had on Okinawa was super and from south of the border Carta Blanka leaves the more touted brands in the dust, but I no longer drink, so Ice water does it for me these days.

I live in an area near what is getting called the "Craft Beer Capitol" nowadays. Trashville,,,, eeerrr,,,, Asheville NC. Lots of craft breweries around. I've even had a few jobs dealing with critters in them. But while I've never been a big drinker, the occasional cold beer does hit the spot for me. I can go months & months & not touch a drink, or sit with friends & enjoy a social drink or three. My tastes in beer have been more traditional, in that Bud, Coors, Michelob, Miller etc all were what I called beer. The newer craft stuff,,, well, I have never tried any I found I liked the taste of. And my family used to have a convenience store, we sold beer, and the local distributors were always giving us a sample to try. After one or two sips,,, I usually poured them out. But, many folks do enjoy them, and as such I say to each his own. Everybody's tastes are different.
