Everyone should have a .357 Mag levergun -- wonderful little packages. Same can be said for the .45 Colt -- obviously I'm no help with the .357 v .45 colt question.
I have 3 Rossi m92s (20" .454, 16".44 Mag, 16" SS .357 Mag) - recently sold a 20" octagon .357 Mag (it was a bit heavy and I just never shot it). I sat in front of the TV and worked the actions of all guns relentlessly and they smoothed out considerably.
Also have two Marlin 1894s (18" .357 Mag, 24" octagon Cowboy .45 colt) - recently sold a 20" octagon .44 mag cowboy and a 32-20 half mag. All of the Marlins had Bob Munden action jobs (except the 32-20). For some reason, the .44 that I sold felt heavy and stumpy, while the 24" .45 cowboy feels light and lively -- go figure.
For whatever reason, the M92 actions "feel" better to me than the Marlins w/Munden action (all though the Munden triggers are considerably better). When I work the lever on the Marlins they just hammer the middle and ring fingers on my lever hand (probably a personal issure). Haven't seen any noticeable difference in accuracy between the two makes.
If mounting a scope is a consideration, the advantage goes to the Marlins.
FWIW,
Paul
PS also have a Marlin 1895 26" Oct cowboy w/Munden action -- it is an absolute joy to shoot with cowboy level loads -- the 350gr Hornadys at 2,100 fps, not so much (still have most of the orginay box of 350 grainers and no loaded ammo).

Thank you all! Decisions, decisions. In case no one has said it, the 357,41 and 44 mags all have a bit more rim than the grand old 45 colt. The better for the extractor to get ahold of....

For me, the recoil of 357Magnums out of Levers is very little, and isn't really noticeable until we start using the hot 180gr loads.
357's in Levers stop game much better then we usually expect, with very little recoil.
45Colt gives more of everything.
I had too much trouble with Winchesters 94 in 357Magnum and they couldn't fix their own design flaws. The Win 92's are fine, and Rossi's have some rough spots that are easily fixable. Marlins simply have a great reputation. Henry has a great reputation for customer service - if needed.
Just my thoughts. I really like the pistol caliber Levers.

The prices for these pistol caliber levers are amazing when you contrast them to the old 30-30, which you can find at half the price, except for the Rossi.
I have more research to do, more gun shows to attend, more people to talk to---That's all good!
