Good, people don't realize the germs they carry in their mouths, same with large lizards like monitors, I used to have a lot of pet snakes and got tagged a few times by hyper rat snakes or big constrictors, luckily no reaction most likely due to fact they weren't wild, they were captive bred pets feeding on frozen rats/mice only. Even though I like snakes and they are beneficial to out environment I still kill poisionous ones and sometimes non as well if it happens quickly, I wont take a chance of losing my families lives, my pets, or my own for a snake period.

Exactly... I don't go out of my way to harm or kill'em, but by golly if they get in the way where they ought not to be, BANG! I've had a few "Pet" snakes, mostly Black Rat, Black Racer's, a couple little Ring neck's, Green's, and a Milk snake, so I'm Not anti-snake, but sometimes dead snakes are Good Snakes! We have a pretty healthy population of Timber Rattler's and Copperhead's around these parts... BigBore44

Where are ya, I lived there all my life and looked for snakes, never say a rattler, heard them up in rattlesnake mountain, and never a copperhead, I saw one water moccasin, I shot it before it bit my friend. I heard painted Post had them in the southern tier as well but I never saw one.

Jim I'm in the southern tier, not too far from West Point military academy. Lots of Timber rattlers every summer in some what of a certain area. It's known for a few dens of rattlers. The Copperheads are less popular these days, but quite a few years back were a Very common occurrence... I see probably 10-15 Rattlesnakes a summer, and I'm talking in a 50 acre area... I'd say that's pretty common, and I KNOW I'm not seeing the same one over and over, if you catch my drift BigBore44

The only thing I miss about NY in the woods/mountains. I moved to East TX so it's as close an environment as I'm going to get here, woods, hills, lake county, etc. I remember there was a service area off 81 that was shut down a few years back bc of a timber rattler den near by and they didn't want people getting bit. I used to pass by Doug Turnbulls shop all the time when I went hunting and my father in law lived up the road from him. Small world man.

Hey Zane ALL them snakes don't have arms or legs making them harder to hit, but look on the bright side, We either end up with Center Mass or Head shot!!! By the end of summer I'll probably have a couple ventilated with the new Bisley Flattop 44 spl Be safe out there... BigBore44 well the shooting is what I was happiest with! I figure if I can hit a 1" wide target that is quickly moving at 9 yards with a cast bullet all while hip or point shooting then I can handle bigger, meaner targets without worry!
your flat top would be perfect for it. using a .44 is twice as easy as using a .22.

Zane I forgot to mention, that 44 of yourself is SWEET! LOVE the CCH! BigBore44 thanks Ray! I couldn't be happier with it! if it shoots as good as I think it will then I do believe i'll give it a set of Ivory's and a Belt mountain base pin. that should make it look even better.

No fear of snakes here, from 4th to 6th grade, me and two other friends had several hundred snakes between us. I do have a healthy respect for snakes, and have run into them at bad times and places where my best option at the time was BANG ! A Timber Rattlesnake came up thru a knothole in the porch floor at camp and left the Lab n me pinned against a wall. Inside, under a roof or not, he got shot up. Another time heard one buzzing, while sitting on a running ATV. Searched all around and found the varmint just off my left ankle, BANG ! Last time ealy in year like now, camp members boy found a snake down at the river and carried it 2miles up the hill to camp and asked me what it was. I very calmly and forcefully ordered him to drop it and step back fast ! It was a copperhead. BANG ! Many, many others , in other places and safer conditions were not shot or harmed. I've no control over my dreams, even my dreams have a sense of humor sometimes. I prefer the ones with scantily clad, never mind. I do spend a lot of time outside, and like with bears, maybe have more oppurtunities for incidents than most. I did find one of the somewhat rare little pygmy rattlers here in my flower bed. I hand caught it and transferred it to the crazy cat ladies flower bed. Fingers crossed..
