D. Clements offers 10mm conversions on them, can they be done to .41 mag?

I'm not much of a DA man, but one man's trash... Hopefully I'll know after the weekend.

Yowtch. I've got a gunsmith friend who was willing to convert a GP to .41 Special for me (a six-shot). I'd kept my eye out for one for some time, and then found a stainless one in 95% condition for $300 at a shop across the street from my SF office that was clearing them out for a security company (thanks to a friend on OK who called me up after learning the shop had this great deal going on). I planned to have it converted, but then I shot it in .357 and liked it so much that I'm just going to leave it as is! Good luck with yours!

shoot the heck outa it. Or trade for a S&W:-) I have a like new 4" GP100 I picked up for 250.00 guy needed money... I haven't shot it but it is in reserve for trade stock or for a loaner Someone is always needing a good strong accurate gun. It 's like buying a chunk of gold that you can use to bring home the bacon with or protect your bacon with.

I'd shoot & enjoy it just as it is. It's a great gun as is. Frank

I'd keep it in .357 and enjoy. They are great revolvers. Oddly enough, mine is the one gun of that isn't for sale. A friend carried it as his personal sidearm as a pilot in Desert Storm, so it's become a personal keeper.

There isn't an option to leave it alone. It has to be repaired. Conversations with a few smiths have led me to the conclusion that a five shot cylinder isn't worth the effort for what I get out of it.
Now the question becomes: Send it to Ruger (ballpark of $200 plus shipping) OR buy a cylinder from numrich for 105 and lay into it myself? Sending it to Ruger involves rolling the dice on whether they pick up the tab...

It would take a whole lot of stupid to hurt a GP-100. I'd love to know the story on that cylinder. GP-100s are tanks.

Send it to Ruger. They'll tell you whether or not it's going to cost you, before they begin the work.
You can legitimately ship it to them on the cheap via UPS/FedEx as "machine parts", and Ruger will return it complete directly to you, so there will be none of those pesky FFL costs factored in.

I would have it repaired by Ruger, and leave it .357 mag. I used to think of the .357 as mundane, but not anymore. Quite a few felons looked up the barrel of my first GP100, and a few looked up the barrel of one of my newer ones. It's not that the first one wore out, the newer one has fixed sights, which is a bit better for concealed carry.

I'd get it fixed by Ruger and shoot the heck out of it. I bought a 357 mag BH with all the intentions of shopping it off to get converted to 41 mag. Nope, not going to happen now. I loaded up some of the 215 gr. keiths form the mold I bought from Zeus at 1250fps and oh daddy, it came alive. ;D Bill

D. Clements offers 10mm conversions on them, can they be done to .41 mag? If a 10mm fits, why not the 10mm Magnum? The 10mm Mag would come close to .41 Magnum power. And if the 10mm Magnum fits, why not a lengthened .357 SIG/9x25 Dillon using the 10mm Magnum case? This would be close to the .357-44 Bain & Davis.
