A few years ago I bought a Freedom 97 in .22lr and while it was gorgeous and perfect in every way, it just didn't speak to me. Truth is, I couldn't shoot it any better than my Single-Six so I couldn't see having the money tied up in it. Well, I just kept thinking about them and thinking that maybe I'd have better luck with a centerfire. I decided to shrink my gun collection rather dramatically recently and seemed to have a bunch of cash on hand and this popped up. I went for a .44 because I just got back into the .44 and it handles everything I'll ever need a handgun to handle with the added benefit that being made on a frame built for the .454 I'm pretty sure I can get all the performance a .44 has to offer. It's only been to the range once but I'm pretty sure it shoots a whole lot better than I do and the first five rounds went into one hole. I think this one is going to stick around for a while. *** Despite all the invitations to attend, not only has the .44 Magnum been late to its own funeral, the plainspoken .44 hasn't showed up at all. Among factory .44 Magnums, the Freedom Arms Model 83 delivers consistently high velocity for a given load, with accuracy to match. That David Clements front sight is a handsome blade, with better viewing angle to the ramp than the factory insert. David Bradshaw

I have to agree heavily with Mr. Bradshaw, the 44 is a great cartridge and often overlooked these days. In the 83 it really shines.

Thanks Chief... Mr. Clements made one for my 6" 83/41 Magnum with two gold holdover bars.... Holding all the way to the base of the sight blade gives me a 800 yard zero with a 255 grain bullet at 1450 fps... Bought two of these for my 97s...seller is over on the FA Board on Greybeard's Forum...great sight picture... 6.5" .327 top and a 4.25" .41 bottom.. I've got the exact same front sight on my 41 Mag 97 and absolutely LOVE it.

I really like that blade too and now I get to have David make me another one since this one is about as much short as the factory one was tall. I really like those sighting bars, I may have to add those. I've ditched the .44 a few times in the past but always seem to come back to it, it just plain works and I sure don't need anything more out of a revolver and usually a tad less is just fine.

Savit260- Was 800yds a typo? I'm lucky to find a place to shoot a hundred anymore.

Mackay throwing bullets with Glock 21...he was aiming at one of the passing clouds... Oblong hole is where one of macks .45s intersected my .41... Digging for bullets... Finding bullets...

Wow, what a shot. Like long range mortars. I thought I was the man with a 330yd shot on a prairie dog using a 22lr. You can't see it but, I'm bowing to you.

...it's about as much fun you can have with your clothes on!! This setup was ideal because you could see the bullet strikes on the sidehill and walk your shots into the target... The year before we shot down at a dried up lake out to 500 yards and could do the same...

Those are my front sights shown on the 4 guns in the last 3 photos above. They are available from kkoneill@centurylink.net ... and worth every penny. Can't thank you enough for the improvement in the sight picture. As a bonus, I think they look nice too.
