I guess I'm the only guy in the world who's never owned an AR. Too late to start now.

Ken,
I hit Grices Gun Shope in Clearfield, PA about a month back. They're still alive and kicking and have a great selection,....although it looks like they've cut back some since the last time I was there (about 15 years ago). Picked up an auto and a old single six while there. It's on the drive to the parents for me now, I guess I'll be a regular until the PA license is no longer.
I mentioned this place for your last jaunt through PA about 6? months back and it's, officially, still worth stopping.

Brilliant move on Ruger's part given the current (and future I suspect) administration. Expect to see it and the rest of the AR stuff go the way of the dodo bird.

While I'm sure that BO and crew would love to reinstate the ban. I think they might want to see how the 2010 midterms go. And with the way things are looking we may get that regime change in DC. Back on topic, that is a great idea. I would feel a lot more comfortable buying Ruger then some of the other brands that I dont know much about. Now all we need is a Ruger 1911.

and while that thing is 'spendy' for an AR,.....it appears top shelf in a lot of respects. lots of chrome, good barrel, the variable piston system, accurate from Mr. Quinn's article, etc.
I'd like to see one with a longer barrel and my Remington would be out the door faster than O'Bama at an anti abortion rally.

Never cared much for ARs, has a lot to do with the fact that 29 involuntary discharges (yes I said involuntary because they pinch a nerve in my shoulder every time they recoil and make me pull the trigger again not on my own accord) out of a 30rd mag bothers me. But I sure would like to see a Ruger 1911.

I would like to give one a try. Ruger has had allot of "almost good" guns. They seem to go 9 yards too often these days and just cant or wont make the effort to get the hole 10.

No attraction here... For 25 years I had absolutely no use for them. After a few 2 mile runs followed by 500 Yard run downs with the All NG International Combat team I appreciate the AR for what it is... Even owned a few.

Seems like the best of both worlds. An AR with an FAL gas system. Bill

I really hope it works for them. IMHO the more 'mainstream' firearms manufacturers making EBRs, the better. I too would like to see a longer barrel, caliber options, and different buttstocks. A side-folder should be doable, if they move the action spring under the rail.

Priest, Thanks for the reminder about Grice's. They're on my list for my next visit North. Ken

As further insight to the AR craze, I'll mention that a few days ago, I was in a local- always well stocked- gun dealer's, where I got my first Lipsey's flattop, inquiring about getting another, a 5 1/2" version. I later took a moment to walk down the length of the long handgun display case, and when I turned to leave, I was startled to see a new L-O-N-G gunrack, absolutely crammed full of various AR's in who - knows-how-many configurations. A successful business sells what people buy. I'm still to old to start now.

AR's and the like can be fun and fun is all ours get used for. If I ever go to battle I want a battle rifle not a poodle shooter.
