I have finally ordered a 480 Ruger Super RedHawk today. I have to say I can't wait for it to arrive.

I picked one up on sale at CDNN while waiting for the SBH 480 to arrive. I'm very happy with mine. I'm planning to have it chopped to about 4.80 inches, add new sights and a red dot sight, or not, depending on chores at hand.
A nice chest rig is in order as well.

I really nice used one came into my local shop last week. Great trigger, really tight gap and almost imperceptible end shake. I swear it was worked over. Target grey, no turn line, and already offered to me at $600 out the door.
I am reeeeally tempted. If it was a 44 or 454 it would be home already.

As much as I love my 454 SRH I sometimes wish I'd gone for the 480. Good choice!

I have a SRH in 44, I want one in 480. $600 is a good price...

Interesting that after all these years and the SBH becomes available, folks are still reaching for the SRH. That really says something about the SRH - it has always been regarded as a shooter whether in 44, 454 or 480.

I know folks often deride the SRH for its aesthetic appeal - or lack thereof (not for me!) -- but they truly are great guns. Some folks get it, many don't. The .480 SRH is a great combination! I bought my first one in 2001 and was sold on that cartridge immediately. Looking forward to your impressions.

I agree, rugged, dependable, accurate, don't know what else you could want in a double action hunting revolver. I've had both the 44 & the 480 & both were terrific on big game, the only problem was I let them both get away to smarter hunters. I fire lapped the 44 & it was just silly accurate with a 4X Leupold on top. A cow elk & a few mulies hated it, mostly with the 250 Keith, except for the elk, took her with a 270 gr. Speer Gold Dot.

I have finally ordered a 480 Ruger Super RedHawk today. I have to say I can't wait for it to arrive. Good move imho. I know some dislike the looks of'em, I like'em just fine, and from what I've read and seen with mine they seem like great guns. You Surely CAN'T say they're Under built I don't have the 480 (YET) but have the other's in 44 & 454. My 44 is the longer 9.5" bbl and is setup at the moment with a 4x Leupold, and it's very accurate for me with my handloads, which is a 265gr WFNPB over 8.5/9.0gr Universal and a LPP in SL cases. Nice and easy on the shooter, game not so much The 454 I'm still in the process of getting it setup how I want and building loads to try in it. I eventually want to cut down the 44 to approximate the same as the Toklat of around 4.75" give or take. Eventually the 480 will be bought and be left alone, except for tuning and such.? I kinda wish I would have bought the 480 instead of the 454, but I'm not gonna complain since I want the Trio anyway... Good luck with yours and let us know how she shoots... BigBore44

That 44/454/480 SRH might not be the gun you want with you at your wine tasting but if you are going to shoot they work out pretty good...

I really like my .480 SRH, mine is a little different from the norm. Its a 9 1/2" stainless (no target grey) that I found brand new a few years ago. It had some cylinder/chamber issue but Ruger replaced the cylinder and it hasnt missed a beat since. Lately Ive been thinking of having the barrel chopped but I hate to mess with it because its so accurate, then again it sure is end heavy! I cast a nice 428gr pill thats BRUTAL down range.

Mine is a 7 1/2" Stainless, not gray model. I have been looking at the dual cannelure bullet from Beartooth, wondering why it can't be seated long in the SRH.
I would think this would close the small gap between the 480 Ruger and 475 Linebaugh to nil.
Would be a lot of stopping power in a six shot double action

I remember Lee posting a while back that he trims 475 brass closer to 480 than 475 but leaves it a bit longer for the added powder capacity. With the right bullet I think you'd be able to get nearly the same performance between the two.
