In factory rifles I would say go wth Kimber or Cooper. Custom Rifle go to Gradous Rifles. Go with a McMillian stock with Edge Technology and avoid that other knock off stock company like the plague.

Really pretty like new M52 Cooper in 06 for sale locally with Talley rings for $1700 I think. Nice looking rifle.

I am all ears here gents. I have procrastinated for quite a while on one rifle. I get hung up on cartridge. The 30's keep coming back to me. I am done with wildcats. Not that I don't like them, they can be a hassle if you travel and gun and ammo get seperated. I am looking hard at the 300 WSM. After this deer season I have one on loan to fool with till next year. I am looking at loading it down and up to full tilt loads, see how it performs across the spectrum. I know I know why load down. Most deer in this corner of the state are taken at 200 or under. Down loaded a 300 WM to about 30-30 for a buddy. He likes the load and uses it all the time now, yet takes it out and snipes critters with it past 500 with a favorite full tilt load.
Keep talking and I will keep listening. Jeff

I sent an action to G.A. Precision and got back a barreled receiver from them (stainless). I bedded the action to a Bell and Carlson M40 stock and put a Sightron SIII 6-24-50 scope on it. Best group I got at 100 was 1/3 of an inch. None of the rifles mentioned so far are less than spectacular. They really are works of art. I just wanted something different when I put mine together. The black one is a Remington SPS Vamint in 308 that has had the barrel shortened and threaded. CDI detachable mag and has a Leupold 4x14.5x40 Mark 4 scope. It is far from a custom but it was my first dive into this world. Looking back I would have done a lot different with it. If you can't find exactly want you want don't be afraid to ask a gunsmith to put you together what you want. There is a gun store in West Louisville KY (whittaker Guns) that has a lot of Coopers in stock of varying calibers. They are very fine firearms but they are out of the price range that I would want to pay for one.

Picked up that NULA today Bushog. 6lb 4 oz scoped when I weighed it this afternoon. These aren't the prettiest rifles but man do they feel good when shouldered and they shoot great!!!

Buddy shot a 1.4" group with the 338 last week at 750 yards with the 300 Berger. I've shot it to nearly 1900 yards and it was boring but never on paper past 100 when I was checking loads early on. It is an incredible rifle. The 308, I haven't shot but I bet it works great!!! Highly recommend GAP. They are a local company here and a great place to deal with!

I'll never notice the few ounces but I do not like the way my Kimber shoulders compared to these NULAs. Not even close for me as to how they fit and point to each other. The Kimber is a very nice gun and they seem to shoot well from what I see here and hear from others, but for me, the other just fits me better personally. In all fairness though, I haven't shot mine at all. I didn't like its feel when I got it in and put it in the back of the safe. In fact, I just got an email saying the rings were in stock so I will probably get around to scoping it soon. I'll see how it shoots then and hopefully, the gritty trigger will smooth out a little. Got a lot of "sand" in it. The Kimber I have sure looks better than the NULA!

Hey! I like the paint job I picked on the NULA....
It's not a custom but I still like my German handi-rifle.
I'm betting it's right in there with you guys regarding weight.
I've got a 9.3x74 barrel for it that shoots like a dream and makes BIG holes in things

A sako and a nice compact Nightforce, in Talley lightweights would be my top recommendation.
