Idaho has been in the news almost every week this year regarding bear attacks or break in's, never seen anything like it. Today I was at the local Mexican resurant & the waitress was telling me her dad was bowhunting saturday & he was sitting on a waterhole & happened to fall asleep, common, I do the same thing from time to time. Her husband & his dad had already tagged out on elk so her dad was alone at the time. He said he heard a noise that woke him up & a bear was running straight at him. He didn't have a bear tag but jumped to his feet & drew his bow in self defense & the bear veered off & disappeared into the brush. Spooky way to wake up from a nap! While she was telling me the story she happened to look at her cell phone & said "oh my gosh" somebody got attacked by a bear yesterday (sunday) I came home & saw it on the news. A man & woman were bow hunting east of here in the Dry Valley area & the woman was attacked by a black bear, she said she did see some cubs close by. The husband fired a gun in the air that scared off the bear then drove his wife to the local Soda Springs hospital where she was treated for bite wounds & released. This has been going on all year with black bears & grizzlies in Idaho.

A blackie attacked a freaking runner right here in Los Alamos a couple weeks ago!
Lots and lots of food here too.
Bumper crop of acorns...

Interesting, it's been a particularly light year for bears here in the western UP. I've only seen 4 all year. Normally it would be 5-6 times that.

Bears put the wild in wilderness ! We again have a bear in residence somewhere around here. I'll be spending the weekend in the Alleganey Forest, bear central. Just don't put youself in the wild, by adding yourself to his menu. Be careful folks.

Similar situation here in Montana. Local news interview with FWP saying significant increase in problem bears and bear encounters. Problem attributed to this year's limited food source in this critical "fattening up" period prior to hibernation.

Our Utah fishermen has been lower this year so their food source has been down quite a bit!!

We don't have bears in Texas. Texas Parks and Wildlife tell us that, so we believe 'em.

Those must be examples of the rare South Texas Giant Black Racoon species, huh?

I remember backpacking the "Bob", east of the divide back around '81. Plenty of bears seen, scat, raked trees etc.. Memory and maps seem to be tucked away yet this am.. Would 20 mi NW of Choteau put the incident in the Bob or Glacier, or just outside ? Reservation ?
