Had a chance to buy one for $625 new in box last year. Passed and am still regretting it. They'll probably be collector fodder down the road.

I would suggest a set of Hogue Tamers for it -- the best $20.00 you will spend. You will find that the .480 is much more pleasant to shoot than the SRH in .454 -- less snappy but more of a push -- it's no maiden's caress, but not as bad as the Casull. If you need to shoot factory ammo for any reason, the only load I would really use is Buffalo Bore's 410 grain WFN (at 1,200 fps). There is little on this earth that it will not punch clear through. Congratulations again!

tdog49, Sounds like you live in Anchorage. I'm glad you got it. Great Northern Guns is a great shop, with interesting gear. Welcome to the forum from some Valley Trash that hangs out here on occasion. Rob Leahy

Rob, Anchorage originally, now Wasilla by way of Fairbanks, all thanks to the railroad. I wear my valley trash hat with pride. I'm a gun owning city hippie trying to be a country boy.
I will becoming to you within the next year for holsters, got 2 .44's and this .480 to cover with leather.

tdog49, you'll really like that .480. If you've been shooting the .454 you'll find the .480 an easy shooter. You guys have really hurt my feelings though! I sold my .480 SRH one year ago for only $500. Oh well, I have sold very few over the years that I didn't regret later. Good Luck, Skip

Suddenly I feel inadequate, with my measly 44's & 454. Sorta like bringing a .22lr to a big bore party. ;D

Go with the new one. Wish Ruger made the SBH in .480, even if they have to drill one less hole in the cylinder. A 6 1/2" barrel for hunting in ohio. steve b
