encore64.... and Part 3. It would be great for the GP-100 .22LR 10-shot uphold the standard, and for the S&W Model 617 10-shot to continue the tradition. Perhaps Ruger and S&W have been looking over each other’s shoulder, as the GP-100 5.5-inch, and the M-617 6-inch each list @ $829. Let us hope performance matches price.
bionic.... re-reading your anecdote, Brittany at your side, brings a smile to my heart. David Bradshaw

magnumwheelman.... a couple of photos of “.22 ratshot” (K-22 Part 3) illustrate the feeble effect of a tiny pinch of tiny shot. It would be cruelty to try .22 shot on a squirrel. From my own experiments, I wouldn’t even use .38 Special, .45 ACP, or .44 shot on a squirrel, and only on a rat at contact distance. For shooting rats from the seat of a tractor, I favor a SIG/Sauer P226 loaded with 9x19mm hollow point, a Ruger MK II loaded with .22LR Hi-Speed Hollow Point, or other .22 handgun of sound handling. My limited experience with .410 loads in the Taurus Judge shows real distance limitations, an impression possibly shared by others. David Bradshaw

I don't have many mouse stories(mice stories?), in fact I only have two. Well, three, but one is about my pet white rat and I don't like that one. It was 1968, we'd been married a little over a year and had a new baby. Wow, that brings back a lot of nostalgic feelings. Anyway we had a mouse in the bathroom so I set a mouse trap to catch the little bugger. Later that night the trap went off! YAY!! WE caught THE MOUSE!!! Then the trap was flapping about on the floor. After a short time, no more than 2 minutes, it was quite. We went in and I picked up the trap. WE looked at the trap, we looked at each other. "We need a bigger trap." Half my new little mouse trap was gone. Chewed off, eaten and swallowed. The next night I set my new MOUSE TRAP. What a trap: 7" long, 4" wide and 1/2" thick. I set the trap, placed it in the bathroom and waited. WHACK! More flapping around. Silence. We opened the door, there was the trap, intact with a big, ugly rat over 12" long. counting the tail.
