I am looking to buy some. I will probably load these over 9 grains of Unique. Anybody know of a good place to buy some good bullet? I am in agreement with What Dick has told you earlier. I also like to use a 265 grain bullet that is loaded to around the 900 FPS range. The RCBS 270 SAA loaded with the 9 grains of Unique will give you close to that speed also. I can shoot those loads all day long and with the 270-SAA bullet I can and DO, load them up hotter. I follow in the path that Several men have gone before me chose. I realize that using the same bullets for nearly everything, from general purpose to hunting,,, may seem expensive in some ways. But if you are shooting the same loads or at least close to the same loads and the same bullets most all the time, Then,,, When an opportunity presents itself to make a shot that other might not take, or even if you are just having fun with some friends busting rocks then, YOU,,, will take that shot and you will make it. Because you know what that gun can do with that load and that bullet. Different scenerio, but same principle. I use 55 grain bullets for my varmint gun all the time. They are some higher priced bullets, But I know what I can do with them, and I know they will handle the wind, and I happen to have several loads for them. That RCBS 270 SAA drops at about 280 grains for me and I have been happy with it. I can tell you where to get some cheap. mattsbullets.com they are not on the website. Tell him you want some, and tell him Charles Pugh told you to get them from him. Charles

I'll heartily second Miha's version of the RCBS 270-SAA. This particular mould comes with about four sets of HP pins. As such, I think of it as a "variable weight" mould. For general purpose practice and plinking, one can use the large HP pin and WW alloy which will result in a bullet weighing about 265 grs. that can be loaded in the 800-850 fps range and not expand. Switching to the pentagonal HP pin will increase the weight to around 275 grs.\ The small HP pin will net a bullet around 285 grs. ...and cast as a straight SWC will give you a bullet weighing about 290 grs. All weights have been extremely accurate in my 45 Colts. Another really nice bullet is Lee's 452-255-RF. I'll preface that by saying that the mould is hands-down the biggest pile of junk I've ever owned, requiring the utmost care and a watchful eye to keep the alignment pins in place and the mould halves aligned when pouring. But the bullet itself, which drops at about 260 grs., refuses to shoot bad in any revolver with just about any load!

Thanks Charles on where to get some of those RCBS 270SSA. I have heard Matt's bullets are real good. I am not really looking for bevel base bullets.

I agree with the RCBS 270 SAA and use them for hunting and general carry. My favorite bullet when not shooting at game is the Lyman 454190. It is a flat base round nose bullet that pretty well duplicates the original bullet used in the 45 Colt. I cast mine and they weigh 255gr. Not sure where to find someone that sells them though. This bullet is accurate in every gun I've tried.

My favorite is shown in my avatar image. They're from a custom Accurate mould and weigh in at 347 grains lubed and checked. I reckon it's hard to go wrong with the RCBS-270-SAA (upon which these are partially based), but these are heavy hitters, and accurate too! I'm a one load per gun sort of feller, and these are all I currently shoot.
