Just plunked my money down (over the phone) on a Sabatti 45-70 double. Plan is to send it to JRH for a 45-100 rechamber. Anyone played with one of these? Hopefully I can get it & post up a pic or three next week.

Been thinking about one myself for some time. Reputation is sort of spotty on these, mostly to do with how they were/are regulated. Some early guns were regulated by means of grinding the muzzles one way or the other to bring them in line. Later I guess they had a real Double man do the regulating and had better luck. They are a pretty reasonably priced double rifle. Will watch to see how yours comes along with interest.

Hopefully I can get it & post up a pic or three next week. I owned a 9.3x74 and a 450-400 and sent them down the road. The 9.3 shot very well, the 450 not. This with many different loads tried. I am sure you realize that you have to do a fair bit of handloading work to get it to correctly shoot to sights after the rechamber.

If you have a keeper make sure you get a good recoil pad installed because in 45-100 it will kick the snot out of you. I almost bought one of these myself about 2 years ago as Cabelas had them on sale for $2,500 but couldn't find any in stock that didn't have the muzzles ground. Some guys report great success with these, others not so good. Best of luck to you and hope you report back how it shows after you find a load that shoots well. Remember the general rule is if the bullets are shooting wide increase the velocity to bring them together. If they are crossing, slow it down.

that's good info...
I haven't had as much time to play with my SXS Remington Bakail double in 45-70 as I'd like... though those are adjustble with a jack screw between the barrels...

Double .45-100.....you planning a trip to Africa? Eventually. It's going from the WV Cabelas to my local one, I asked the guy in the gun library to specifically check the muzzle for the grinding, and he said they were clean and even. For $2300+tax, I figured I should grab it before someone else did.

That's unusual Cabelas had one as they put them on sale last year and tried super hard to clear out their inventory and the last report on the net was they sold every new one they had. At least with Cabelas you can return it if not as described. Is this rifle new or used?

Graeme Write's book is a pretty good one to own. The triggers on mine were stiff and the factory pads suck so I had Tip Burn's correct this.

Firs two shots offhand went within a couple inches of each other - and cracked the stock. Haven't got back out since the repair.
