My trio of Ruger Old Army. I've been toying with a button bullet I cast from an Ideal mould, the bullet was apparently designed as a gallery bullet for a 45-70(?). I size the lower band to .452 to aid in seating and leave the top as cast at ~.457, pure lead or plus 2% tin. These are great guns and shoot well with the button bullet, groups well even at 50 yards with 35 grains of Pyrodex P.

Nice set! I've been trying to get my ROA to shoot 230 LRN .452's accurately. I've failed so far. What's your gallery bullet weigh?

They're in the 163 grain area, not much more than a round ball.

Great looking trio. I've been giving some thought lately to trying my hand at some BP revolvers, to see what the fuss is all about. ;D Probably begin with a Ruger or two like yours & maybe an open top flavor down the road.

Nice trio of Old Army's there. I have a set exactly like it except my blued one has a bit more err... character.
I like the looks of that button bullet for a plinking / small game load. So far, I have only shot mine with round ball and, while it is a lot of fun, accuracy has been only mediocre ...about 3" at 25 yd. I blame me though, not the guns. If I ever take the time to concentrate on the details I am sure I can improve on that.
I see what I assume are Wonder Wads in your picture. I have tried them but have not got enough experience to decide whether they are worthwhile or not. Do you use them along with grease or instead of? And, do you find them worthwhile?

I use the Wonder Wads and don't see them as a detriment. I still stick a little BP lube in the button bullet groove just because. I don't like (stinky & sticky) lube over the top of the bullets so I use the Wonder Wads.

Those Wonder Wads add a some expense to shooting bp but they sure are nice. none of the mess that you get from grease, they keep the bore cleaner, etc.
