I've got a bit of a bug in my bonnet for a 9mm lately. I've narrowed it down to the P226 and The 92FS. In the past I had a 92D Centurion that I liked pretty well. Shot great but found it's way down the road to help finance a Python. Both feel good in hand. I don't particularly have an issue with the trigger reach on the Beretta as some seem to. The Sig seems to have a better trigger out of the box than the Beretta. I prefer the sights on the 92fs (only night sights are available on the Sig in Mass. and I'm not crazy about them). Also being in Mass. the availability of pre ban mags is a bit easier for the Beretta.
What are some other pro's and con's of these two pistols?
Any preference between the two?
This would be for range use and carry. I don't find the size of either to be an issue for carry with a good holster.
Price not being a factor, which one would you chose and why?
Thanks.

I like the Beretta. Lots of time, rounds, and experience with the 92 platform. Its my choice over the Sig by a wide margin. Fits me better. I KNOW it works. YMMV.

have shot both quite a bit. I owned a sig 226 and fit a bar-sto extended and threaded match to it. the stock barrel shot very well, I just wanted an extended and threaded. that barrel shot lights out with 147 xtp and hs-6. I would choose the sig over the beretta.

SIG is my choice if you like the SIG trigger. The SIG trigger is too different for my personal tastes. Shot with the All NG Combat Team in the early 90s. Had to use the US issue 9mm. They issued the Beretta 92. Since Army CID used the SIG 228 we could use it. SIG gave the Team 30 228s to shoot for the year. They were fine guns but there was no accuracy difference with the required GI ball load. Put the 147s in the SIG and it would show out. We would go shoot for weeks at a time. For the week you'd better clean that SIG every day. The Beretta ran all week with nary a bobble.

Ain't never shot the Sig. My Beretta M9A1 is more accurate than I can shoot and so far has digested everything I've put through it which includes HP's and dirty ole lead. I'm sending the slide off to Wilson Combat next month for their battle sight treatment and the decocker conversion.

I have owned both Sig 226"s and Beretta 92's. I still have three Sig 226's and got rid of the Beretta's. For me, the Sig points and handles better and has a much better trigger. I also like the decocker system better than the Beretta safety and its' location. Both are equally reliable in functioning, though friends in "firearms intensive" groups in the military report significant parts breakage in the Baretta. My Sigs are more accurate than the Baretta's, though not by a whole lot....
Both are good guns and you won't go wrong with either.....

Put the 147s in the SIG and it would show out. You'll have to forgive my ignorance here. Is "show out" a good thing or a bad thing? Not a term I'm familiar with.

Also how much do the Beretta triggers improve with use? My old D model had a MUCH better trigger than the NIB Italian 92FS I was checking out.
The Sig trigger was definitely smoother, but had the what I call "sproingy" feeling Sig trigger. The Sig trigger is something I could live with as is though. Not a deal breaker.
The Beretta would need a trip to the gunsmith if they don't break in after a few hundred rounds. Do I need to factor in gunsmithing into the 92's price?
On a related note. .. I got to shoot a 226 X 5 the other day that was OUTSTANDING ! It's unfortunately not available here in Mass. Also shot a Wilson 92G Beretta that just didn't "have it". Underwhelmed. Shot ok, but I used to shoot my old 92D Centurion better. Trigger on the Wilson was only slightly better than the NIB 92FS. I was really surprised that the Wilson just wouldn't shoot all that well. Three other very good shots at the range had pretty much the exact same results as I did.

"Show Out" in my post means outstanding accuracy.

Was back at the range/local LGS today looking over the Sig and Beretta again. Still wasn't crazy about the Beretta trigger but preferred the sights to the Sig. Both felt good in hand. I like the E2 Sig grips better than the old Sig ones, and the Beretta had that nice familiar feel (previously owned a 92D Centurion) . Still couldn't make any decisions. They didn't have a Beretta in the rental case to try out, but I do remember shooting pretty well with them before. Steve behind the counter agrees the Beretta's trigger isn't all that good, but wait... we have one more over here in the box. Let's check that one out. He hands me the second one and straight away I said "This is the one". Smooth and lighter through the D/A pull and crisper on the S/A pull. Brought home the sexy Italian. Ran a box of Federal 115gr range ammo through it and I'm pretty happy. Here's the first 10 shots. I much prefer this one to the Wilson Combat Beretta I shot earlier in the week. Thanks for the input guys!

Are those the VZ G10 grips on yours? How do you like them vs. the factory grips? I was thinking a Defon3 or a Cumberland for a holster. I've had great luck with my other Simply Rugged's.
