9mm Auto Rim; I read a post over on Castboolits where a couple of the members talk about using shortened .38 special and .38 S&W brass resized with 9mm dies in 9mm revolvers. Search on '9mm rimmed advise please'. There is another thread where someone was doing that in a convertible Blackhawk and I think he was shortening .38 S&W a little, but I can't seem to find that thread now.

While not legal for IDPA haven't I seen the ICORE guys shooting the 38 Colt cartridge?

While not legal for IDPA haven't I seen the ICORE guys shooting the 38 Colt cartridge? Why not legal? I can't keep up with all the rules in all these games.

I don't claim to be an expert; am not, never will be. That being said, I shoot a 625JM at bowling pins on a semi-regular basis. Before that I shot one of the 8-shot PC .357s. Both guns desperately needed trigger work to be fast - and reliable - in double action. BUT - so has every other S&W I have ever owned. I use a Travis Strahan built PPC revolver as a benchmark for my game guns. The few things I think you need to accept about the 8-shot 9mm are that it was built primarily as a game gun; to play paper punching games with. While acknowledging this, they (S&W) had to straddle the line of reliability and liability. They had to make the trigger pull "idiot proof" and the hammer fall heavy enough to reliably light the toughest primers, not the hand picked Federal primed reloads. The bean counters told them to supply one moon clip, therefore increasing the company's chances of selling more of the overpriced little stampings. I have shot one that belongs to a club member. If I was in the market for an overpriced 8-shot revolver chambered for an underpowered round developed for semi-auto pistols, I MIGHT buy one.

I wonder what the bore size is? .355 or .357? If it's.357 it may not shoot 9mm very accurate but a .357 cylinder could be fit to it for a dual caliber gun. It's supposed to be 355, specifically for the 9mm chambering. I have some factory ammo and a small pile of components to give this thing a test if the weather improves. It shouldn't make a difference. I have a Dan Wesson Model 714 in which I found a spare Model 15 cylinder and had it rechambered to take 9mm Lugar rounds (TK Customs). I shot all manner of 35 caliber rounds through it to include: 380 Auto, 9mm Parabellum, 38 Super, 38 Special, and 357 Magnum. Accuracy was very good on all around for these rounds (pardon the pun). DW41F.

FWIW I once contacted S&W about the barrel on a PC 38 Super revolver.. S&W said that the barrel was the same as the barrels used for the 357. I'd bet that the 9mm is the same too.

Store manager jumped me first thing Thursday when I walked in. Had to show me the 8 shot 9mm S&W revolver on the shelf... I'm tempted but not buying yet. Our 9% sales tax can be a deal killer. It is best to let these specialty things sit on the shelf to fester a bit before I ask for the best price. Today I'd bet I can easily beat his best OTD price by a couple hundred bucks. I can buy a handful of moon clips and have a local holster make me a holster for that.

Axe, per your insight, i checked the throats and they plug out at .357". I don't have any soft lead handy to slug the bore. Suppose this means i should be looking for .357 cast or costed bullets? It shoots JHP's pretty well so far!

Almost wish there was some ICORE shooting around here.. Maybe if a local club would say that they MIGHT shoot some ICORE next year! Wouldn't take much to make me buy one of these game guns.

So Axe, not to bump an old thread, but this lil guy flat Shoots! It's not completely in love with the 147's that I just bought a large baggy of, but I'll see if I can find a load she likes. She'll flat put the 124's where you ask her.
I'm pretty surprised you don't own one yet. Seems like you should be showing me how to shoot a group by now.

I was having trouble getting 147 plated bullets to shoot. Jerry Miculek talks about good accuracy with 147s so I was surprised and a little confused by this. JM specifically talks about the 147 XTPs and I finally got a chance to try those yesterday. Well, they shoot incredibly well. I'm tempted to buy a big pile of them because they really stacked on top of each other. Whole lot of potential there.
Just need to get the shooter up to par and I'll really be getting somewhere.

Well, I bought a racing revolver, so I decided to take it racing. Turns out I'm no Jerry Miculek! First competition was an event called Friday Night Steel. It's very much like Steel Challenge, but much more casual and not sanctioned. It's just an event to bring your handgun and shoot some steel. I was pretty happy with how I did. I think I got 18th out of 55, including classes for 22's and pistol caliber rifles. I beat the only other revolver! That same weekend I did USPSA. That kicked my butt pretty hard. I've never shot fast or on the move or at a wide variety of targets, while on the move fast. Out of maybe 60-80 competitors, I was in the bottom quarter. However there were only 3 other revolvers(including a Master shooter) and due to a computer glitch all their scores were deleted. So, Technically I won the match! Last weekend I did ICORE(first time ever), but due to all day rain, turnout was very low and the event was kept to four all-steel stages. The last stage involved some difficult weak-hand shooting and it was a disaster for several shooters. That boosted me up to second out of eleven shooters. I was really happy with that. I even won a stage!(And I got third place on the rest of them) Today I went to a bowling pin shoot, but good ol' Indiana spring, it was once again raining. So, instead they did a Texas Star match. Shoot the star, then knock down your popper. First popper down is the winner. They do it as a bracket race, double elimination, but they didn't bother running the entire second-chance bracket. They just made sure everyone got to shoot twice per bracket. We ended up doing four brackets, there were only 12 competitors(again, rain). I wanted to post this video. I like my pace, but I'd like to be faster! I especially like that I screwed up, swung right past my popper and shot the other guy's popper, then went back and shot mine. Apparently I couldn't hit the brakes fast enough and get my gun stopped on my own popper. W Watch out for the loud whistle.
