Appreciate the input from the members here. It is a cautious, positive attitude within the fraternity that makes us safe. There isn't room for any less. This positive manner, same as we handle firearms around others every day, does more to set the example and foster a new generation of considerate, safe hunters than any amount of preaching. Off topic though in the thread, sir Bradshaw how did you cut square holes in that supple pants holder?

Stalking whitetail in thick woods is about as good as life gets. Sometimes you get a deer and sometimes you don't but that's why they call it hunting. Either way you've won.

squawberryman.... took reading three times to figure you're talking about square tongue-holes in gunbelt. Them there holes grew over time from holes made with two hits of a round leather punch. Made belt and buckle at age eighteen, 52 years ago. One of these days may have to replace the 2-7/8-inch belt. Wore it on all day yesterday yarding snow with 4x4 bucket tractor. Days before that spent snow-shoeing, you barely feel the 48-ounce Ruger 03 on your hip, Wide, single-layer belt induces no back strain. a thin belt or hard, double layer belt cuts into you, ain't right. Suspenders help hold the pants, a big deal. Have heard the job of gun leather is to provide secure accessibility, not comfort. Bullroar! The job of gun leather is to increase comfort.
By the way, the Ruger 03 weighs 48 ounces unloaded----a nearly irrelevant measurement, as it usually has bullets aboard. Should add a couple-few ounces all up. David Bradshaw
