Early Tuesday morning this small 8pt chased a doe by me about 75 yds out. I was pretty sure he was an older 6pt without brow tines that I was looking to cull.It was raining lightly and I couldn't see his horns well at 100+ yards. When he stopped again, I settled the cross hairs on his neck and he dropped right in his tracks. I used a 200 gr hornady xtp and blue dot. Unfortunately, he was a really young 8pt that would have been a very nice buck in another year or two. Live and learn.........it was my 45th birthday so I cut myself a little slack.

45? Heck I'd have guessed 25. Maybe. What's the details on that gun? Who's brake? Who's stocks - very interesting shape.

At least in my mind I'm still 25. (Wife would say about as mature as a teen still.....) Tapered barrel with shark gill brake made by OTT (On TargetTechnologies). No longer making barrels though. The chamber was EDM cut. As well as the taper and brake. All one solid piece. Wood is by local artist Dave Dolan. He does fantastic work. Gave him the herters revolver and he made me an awesome set of grips for it too.

Interesting... a 401 power mag Contender... care to explain how you ended up there??? do you have a Herters revolver or???
I personally ended up with the 10mm Magnum ( very similar to the 401 power mag ) as I have an Automag 4 in 10 mag... had a Contender barrel made up in that caliber, as well as converted a S&W 610 to 10 mag... while I'd love to have a rimmed case, Starline still stocks 10 mag brass so at least cases are easier to come by... I usually hunt with my "warm" 45 Colt loads in a Contender barrel... but would certainly consider the 10 mag ( & thus the 401 ) more than adequate...

I do have a 401 powermag, but just wanted a "one of" in a contender barrel. The other half of the barrel was made into a 10mm magnum and went to another member. I never did it, but I can take the extractor from one of my 10mm barrels and make the 401 into a 10mm magnum. At one time I had a Fox Ridge 10mm Mag 12" barrel and I still have some brass. At one time I thought about making my 610 a 10mmMAG, but what I think would be even cooler would be a gp100 converted to a 401 powermag.

I load the 401 powermag just about the same as a 41mag.

have a retired machinist buddy that worked at Herters during the 401 power mag roll out... be careful if you run across any original ammo... original run of factory ammo used soft swagged lead bullets & much too much powder... pressures were way up there & they leaded horribly... they pulled all that 1st batch back, & pulled the bullets & reduced the charge...

Opening day of bow season was Saturday. I'd been getting lots of pics of this 7 pt that I am fairly sure was the 6pt without brow tines that I was trying to cull out last year. Only one brow tine with no hint of one on the other side. 30 yd shot with my bow after less than 15 minutes in the stand Saturday evening. Tenderloin has been marinating 4 days and I'm firing up the grill at the pharmacy at noon. Come on by!

nice !!!
my work has kept me from deer hunting in MN the last 6-7 years... I switched around my 3rd party audits from 4th quarter to 1st quarter, so I'm going hunting this year... bought a muzzleloader license & even put in the drawing for a state park hunt ( state park hunt would be nice, as it's for 2 does ) ... I really need to get into the woods... been missing it alot over the last couple years
