Picked-up another 401 Powermag online (thanks to Bloodhound pointing it out). Finally made it to Virginia this week: Doesn't look to be used much and should make a nice shooter. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Bob....I have three other 401s. One is definitely unfired, one looks to be unfired, and the third has been my shooter. Not sure why, but I keep buying these things. My dad jokingly told me today to trade all four in and put the cash towards a three-screw 41. While they're well built, he's never been a fan of the Herter's design. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I hear you Carl. Oddly enough, the gripframe is really not that bad. They look terrible, but the contour works well (at least for my hand). They sort of feel like an FA 83 backstrap with too much trigger side curvature. In fact, they do a great job manging recoil. I just wish they came with wood panels. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Not a PowerMag, but I think the gripframe is the same. Maybe the frame and other parts are common? Homade grips and blueing job. Never actually handled a Powermag...

Mark.....looks like a Hawes. Sauer & Sohn produced single-actions for Herters, Hawes, Hy Hunter, and a few other from the late 1950's thru the 1970's. The gun pictured above is the same model Herters used (Hawes marketed it as the Chief Marshal). I wish I had those grips..... -Lee www.singleactions.com
