Can't believe no one has posted an octagon model 83, which in my mind is the best looking factory revolver made. Something like this?

Not the best picture -- I was messing around w/Photobucket and this was the result. Big Frame M83 and Mid Frame M97 Freedom Arms.

nice set! the 83 looks to be a field grade, who did the octagon barrel? Thanks! I bought the 500 JRH used. Yes, it's a field grade M83. The original owner said that it was converted by Jack Huntington. Don't know who does his barrels (probably does it himself). I'm sure Whit knows and hope he chimes in. The FA97 .45 Colt is one of my favorites and probably my most shot handgun -- I've put over 25,000 rounds thru it and I bought it used. Paul

Many Thanks, gentlemen. I'd never seen this feature on a revolver; looks a lot better than I had thought it would.

Lots of great octagon guns on this forum. I've got this one in the works with John Gallagher, integrated DX sight base and ERH lug. My first custom.

Hey Synd, isn't John close to finishing your 500? He was working on it when I visited him in July.

Here's one that started as a blown up cylinder and frame SBH before being fixed

Ive posted this pic before but never really gave much info on it. Ray of NightOwl gunsmithing is the owner and the builder.
Its chambered in 45-70 and has shot the heaviest Ruger #1 loads without problem. Ray built it because of prodding that turned into a bet from Neil wheeler who was building them for customers. Ray shoots it one handed where the gun ends up behind his head from recoil. I was told it was the inspiration for the first sidewinder's (pre-BFR's).
Skip built the barrel, past that I really don't know much about this gun.
Ray, Neil and skip did work for Dick Casull, Neil also converted some blackhawks to 5 shots 50Cal handguns back in the 70s but couldn't seem to ever get them timed, Ray would do the finish work for him. These 3 guys were at all the gunshows in SLC back in the late 80s, they reminded me of the old men on the muppets. Skip and Neil have passed, Ray still builds rifles in west Valley Utah.
It would be interesting to talk to John Linebaugh about there influence on his conversions.
