Marbles and Williams, thanks! I couldn't remember which you used but I do remember you having to go to the Higgins insert to make it work. I also remember a pic from somewhere that showed several options placed on a barrel but I don't remember if it was your builds or someone else's. Nor do I remember where I saw the pics... I wonder if the front sight height calculator Brownells has would help? With an XS big dot, it may do just as well to just use the trough as it for a fast sight picture.

The xs for rifles is a post with a while line. A big dots doable but a whole other kettle of fish I haven't messed with other than dropping in j frame big dots in existing pin in slots.

Yup we went with the 3/16 so the screw was hidden under the dovetail and it was fun trying to find something the right height. This is a 10/22 xs sight, the Rossi and marlins are similar but wider on the dovetail to fill the slot better

How deep is the dovetail from that dovetail cutter? The .455 barrel looks very thin...
Got outbid at the last second for a complete 1917 cylinder and yoke. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and buy the cylinder and ejector separate and use my yoke and ejector rod.

Ouch. The barrel measures right at .110-.115". Too thin I would think. Looks like a screw mount or sweating it on is the safe way to go.

Probably solder, think we drilled about .10 putting sights on the pinto. Double check with some of the gurus here though I'm still learning. As the local smith told my brother when he asked why it took him so long to do something we could do at home (over a year for a cut, crown and sight installation on a rifle) "Your not a smith, I am. I have expensive tools. " That's what really kicked us off on doing as much work on our own as we can. Spend the money on tools rather than smoke and mirrors and paying to be treated like that.

Oh, I absolutely get it and makes me wish I had a lathe or mill and the time to really learn how to use it. The saga of my missing breech blocks still pisses me off every time I think of it which is usually around 0300 when I can't sleep anyway...
