I'm partial to fixed sights and short barrels with pinned in front sights. Something along the lines of Indiana Jones 1917 is ahead somewhere in the future for me. Especially after seeing craigc's Indy holster.

I need to find out if parkerizing (bead blast?) can be removed and the metal polished out smooth enough for a nice blue or nickle without killing the markings.

Got a wild hair this afternoon and decided I'd remove the barrel that's halfway screwed in the stripped .455. Broke loose easy which made me wonder why it hadn't been screwed all the way in to begin with. Screwed it back in and gave it one more bump for good measure. Apparently the frame slid just a bit in the vice and it tweaked it enough the sideplate doesn't fit right anymore. Got careless and in a bit of a hurry for no reason and it bit me.
So the .38/44 tribute is off the list for a while. OTOH the funds I had put aside for the parts can now go to a new .45 cylinder for Shorty and maybe towards a .41 Mag Blackhawk. And I'm not going fool around with either, I'll let a pro do it.

That blows. Might as well try tweaking it back at this point. Don't let a little set back make ya give up playing at home. I'm sure all the big boy gunsmiths out there have had their shares of booboos in the past. Just set it aside for a while work on something else and come back to it with a clear head.

It does suck and I know good and well it's my own damn fault so no point in getting upset about it. I don't have a lot into it so that lessens the pain. I might just leave it tweaked and use it for bluing practice. And I've still got the good 5.5" .45 barrel if the one on Shorty .45 doesn't shoot. Maybe find another with a bulged barrel and have this one swapped in it's place.
I wouldn't trust a big boy 'smith that DIDN'T have a screw up in their history. That means they don't know what NOT to do.
