That is a nice looking Shopkeeper. Nice work on the stocks. My grandson's Shopkeeper wears a set of neat elk stags made by Sack Peterson. Your photography is OUTSTANDING !! He's going with me tomorrow to the James Farm (Jesse James) in Kearney, MO. The Travel Channel is doing a bit of film on the farm and the old-time shooting events held out there. I'm going to have him with me with his Cowboy hat, jeans, books & his Shopkeeper holstered in his Doc Barranti holster. I'm hoping he will get some attention from the camera guy! Bob Bob, that's simply a GREAT pic!

Purty! That camel bone looks a lot like ivory. Nice touch! Perhaps it could be the new substitute for ivory instead of simulated ivory? I've never worked with bone, but from my attempts at knifemaking I understand by using a vacuum chamber certain types of wood can be impregnated with resin or something similar to seal the pores of the wood. Perhaps that could be used on bone to limit the grunge build up? That Bearcat makes me want to scrape up the funds for a regular stainless model. I don't want to change my OM and I think fancy stocks look better on stainless anyway. thanks! it's used as a cheap alternative to ivory but unfortunately I've never been able to find any in sixgun sized blanks, there are other types of bone out there though that would work size wise but they can be hard to come by. I've never worked with it before but a lot of people do stabilize and even Dye Bone.

Nice gun! A couple of years before Ruger came out with a Shopkeeper, I drew a bearcat with birdshead grips, a steel ejector rod housing, and a brass trigger guard. I didn't think I would ever see one. My wife bought me a standard Bearcat, and I thought I would have to cut and shape the backstrap to get the grips I wanted, but after I saw the Shopkeeper I realized I could grind off the grips to the shape I needed. It worked. I don't have pictures, but I will try to post some soon.

But you need to stabilize the material before making the grips.

Stabilized. That's the word I couldn't think of! Thanks!
Yes, stabilize before cutting and shaping.
