I shoot whatever my sixguns shoot best. Besides, how bout actually shooting FIVE THOUSAND ROUNDS through one sixgun! Well there's a few CAS shooters at the local club that put around a thousand rounds through their sixguns within a couple months. Granted they aren't high speed low drag rounds its sure enough high volume shooting.

I seriously doubt many CAS shooters are shooting gas checked bullets for the cost over plain based!

What about silhouette shooters?
Five thousand rounds isn't That many and if any gun claimed it would only last that long, i bet there would be few takers. (Except benchrest shooters, they're crazy!)

Y'all are correct. Not that you needed me to tell you that but I have it on good authority that Mr. Keith was barkin' up the wrong tree on this one. So use gas checks to your hearts content. And thanks for chimin in.

I was just reading an article by Keith the other day on handloading revolver ammo. I don't have it in front of me to quote, but it included interesting thoughts like the rounds should be sized down so that the rattle around slightly in the chambers. Differences is end use i suppose.

I shoot whatever my sixguns shoot best. Besides, how bout actually shooting FIVE THOUSAND ROUNDS through one sixgun! I have over 100,000 rounds though one 1911 (a custom). They were all home cast bullets and that pistol will still break 2" off a rest at fifty yards. Ray Chapman had over 200,000 rounds through his Pachmayr 1911 and it was still going strong. Talking to an Advanced Markmanship Gunsmith of the U.S. Army, he stated that using military hardball, 5000 rounds was the barrel life of an accurized 1911. I believe him - I have SEEN the damage. Regarding gas checks in a revolver, I have no opinion. I really haven't shot enough of them to reach any concrete conclusion. However, it likely won't be a problem for me, I have excellent results without them and since I don't "Need" them, I don't have to fool with them (aggravation OR expense). However, in the spirit of full disclosure - Frank Siefer and I designed the Lee C430-310-RF and with gas checks it has made groups at 100 yards off a rest for us (and others) that will fairly blow your mind. Further, that 310 gr bullet at 1200-1300 fps in a .44 Magnum is a power house. Nonetheless, I am a plain base guy... Dale53
