It doesn't amaze me. Yes, on a practical level someone in the family should know what shtuff is worth. But I'm thinking more than few of us sneak an item into the house now and then...just sayin'. A couple yrs ago my wife and her mom were hitting garage sales. They're talking to the woman and find out they are newly married and she ain't happy with how much time hubby spends at the fly tying bench with his "fishy stuff". She tells my wife there's a whole box of that stuff on the table that she'll let go for 20 bucks. My wife talks her down to 15 bucks and brings home 3 gallon ziplocks of tying mat'l. Six salt water size fly boxes FULL of flies. Four more gallon ziplocks of finished flies, again, mostly salt water, but a couple hundred nymphs too. I love my wife.

All my stuff will be split between 3 boys. All young yet, 10 years old and younger. I need to sit down someday and list who should get what and what guns really mean something to me and why. Also what really was bought for resale and wouldn't matter if they were sold after I'm gone and my boys are not interested in them. One problem I have is the several lefty guns I have. None of my boys are lefties but my Benelli I use for turkeys is one of my favorite turkey guns and I would like them to keep it. I have way more .44's and especially .357's than I can ever use have a few favorites but they will split up between three nicely.
As far as values my wife knows not to sell anything cheap and that I have quite a collection. I've told her of 3 people that would be honest in helping her if something happen to me. I trust them completely.

My wife knows that I have a lot of crap, after all she has paid for a large portion of it, and ALL of it goes to my two boys. I have enough life insurance etc that I should not leave her strapped,in fact she will be considerably better off. The boys know which guns are special to me and why and they know how to use my casting and reloading equipment. And if something would happen to them first I would I doubt I could care less if she dumped it all in a ditch and covered up.
