Held one of the Miroku Winchester 73s last week... Those guys can put together some steel and wood! If I was a lever gun nut it would have been mine!

I hate to see "Winchester" and "Made in Japan" on the same rifle but I have to agree they do make a beautiful rifle. I have an Miroku 1885 in 50-90 and a 1886 take down in 45-90 and they are both extremely well made firearms.

FWIW,I have a buddy who shoots CAS and has used, to great effect, a Uberti 1873. As soon as the Winchesters came out, he nabbed one. He then installed a short stroke kit, and slicked it up. I asked him if it was better than his Uberti and he allowed he wasn't sure it was even quite as good and certainly not any better than the Uberti.

Sold the only Miroku gun I'd had and is was PRETTY, can't do it. Smith locks and Japchesters, nope.

I'd go with one of those Italian jobs. Those Europeans aren't Chinese and they tend to make pretty good guns.

Just bought one in 44WCF but have not shot it yet. Feels good, real good. Not as pretty as my Uberti, but maybe closer to what an original was...maybe.

True they're not made in New Haven, but at least they say Winchester on it. It does seem sacrilegeus almost that a Winchester clone is made in Japan, but that said they've been doing a good job of it for decades now.

Do they have the tang safety?

No tang safety, these are very close to the originals.

Hmmm…… my "want one" just went up. The price is high, and a lot more than I want to spend, but in a world where used Marlin's are asking at $800, Brownings are rare and high and even Rossi's are pushing $600, the Winchester prices isn't unheard of. I handled one briefly at the 2013 Shot Show, but my memory of it is vague. What's your opinion of the rifle thus far?

The rifle is truly excellent in all respects and probably better quality than the originals. These things are so nice I'm sure Oliver Winchester would be proud to have his name on one. Miruko has been manufacturing firearms for Browning and Winchester for decades now and their quality of workmanship makes me overlook the fact it's Made in Japan.

Own two of these rifles, one is a 1886 Extra lite High Grade in 45-70 and the other is a 1895 .405 Winchester take down. Superb rifles for the price.

I have the '95 in .405 and did get to fire it once on my latest trip to RSA, but only once on game at least. Like others have said its tough to get over the Made in Japan part but they do make fine rifles. Am I to understand that the Miroku '73 is now out in .44-40?
