I bought one of those Model 36-1 3" Target revolvers back in 1975...... Of course when the babies needed diapers about 6 years later, I think it went to buy diapers........ I had a home burglary at about the same time and between selling some and a number of them being stolen from me, it left quite a dent in my S & W collection.... The kids were grown and out of college before I really got back into collecting S & W's again.....
I never got one of these again, about as close as I got was I purchased a Nickel Model 36-1 3" heavy barrel that shoots very well.....
Congratulations on obtaining one, they are a really great revolver!!! A J Frame in .38 Special with a Heavy 3" Barrel with Target Sights....What is not to like about that one!!!

Thank you Rabull! The gun is a nice shooter and so easy to pack. I've decided to carry it and use it. Like that proverbial pocketknife, it's just too handy to leave in a dresser or safe drawer. Handling the weapon with the aftermarket grips is something akin to handling a miniaturized Model 15 Smith.

Came back for another look. I really like J frames they are a lot of fun & can go most anywhere. I'd probably pack that one a lot.

I had to take another look at it also.... What a nice handing little S & W ! I guess you have already gotten to where I am. I say carry it, shoot it and enjoy it. I have several Colt SAA Revolvers and S & W Heavy Duty (N Frames) in .44 Special, .44 Magnum and .45 ACP which are worth some money but I only get to enjoy one life and I'll do it by carrying and using the things that I have collected over the years and I'll be one of those guys that has shot everyone of his firearms and have really enjoyed it !!!

Rabull: I agree! I'm thinning some of the herd but keeping my favorites. To me, guns are for shooting.

About 20 years ago, S&W made a 36-6 which was a three inch full lug blued 38 special with adjustable sights. This was pretty much the same revolver as the 60-4 except for the stainless feature. I have the stainless version and it makes a wonderful little trail gun which is quite pleasant and accurate to shoot. And if you want the same thing in a light weight version - try the 337 which is the three inch with adjustable sights and weighs around 12 ozs. I've got a 36-6, I'll post a pic when I get a chance. My 36-6, it came with an enormous set of Pachmyers on it. These are some EBAY made in Thailand grips. But they actually look and feel pretty good.

THE S&W M36-6, and it SS version too, were the TRAIL MASTERPIECE 38 sixguns. Terry, Rarely has a name fit a firearm so well. For Kitguns I prefer the .32's but your Trail Masterpeice is just about perfect. Here is my Trail Masterpeice under the 327 Federal Carry Comp The 327 Carry Comp is close to a real Kitgun but the port and the grips miss the mark. I added the waxed wood grips from Hoque.

Mine came with the same grip installed.
