My wife and I each have a 600 in 6.5 RM. Hers is box stock with a Weaver(from when it really was Weaver)K4 on it. Mine started life as a 350 RM but has been heavily modified. The owner of the LGS I bought it from swapped the laminated stock for the plain walnut one on his 600-35 Rem. The 350 tube was replaced with a 22" Douglas Premium Air Gauged barrel chambered for 6.5 RM. The 350 tube ended up going on a Mauser action for another shooter.

Beautiful job on the stock Mooshoo..... As to 600/660s...have had a few... 600/.350 RM 600/6.5 RM 600 Mohawk/.223 rechanbered from .222 600 .35 Remington 600 .308 (2) 600 Mohawk .308 660 .308 The only two I have left are the 600/.308 and the 600/.350. Both now wear Leupold Detacho Mounts out on the rib as well as 1960s vintage 2X Leupold M8 IER scopes. The 600/.223 is now with a friend in Texas and is a deer killing machine. With 63 grain Sierra SMPs it is a .4 MOA shooter. The 660 didn't even make it home from the gun shop. I stopped at a range to shoot and one of my close friends who lets me use his cabin in the middle of no-where Maine was there and fell in love with it...so what do I say...he still hunts with it... The 6.5 and .350 .308 and .350 with Leupolds... I only wish I had gotten the .350 decades before I did... Bob

It's a good thing you've never brought out that .308 Bob. I'm afraid it would never make it back out of Idaho!

In the mid to late 60s, my best fried (still is to this day) were working our way thru junion college working for a furniture store. Ended up with enough money to buy a couple of Rem 600s in 6mm Rem. Really wanted Win M70s in .243, but couldn't afford that option. Anyway, we bought the 600s, mounted the then new Weaver variable 2x-8x (can't remember exactly). The scopes had external adjustments -- no turret mounted knobs. We went in together on an original Lee loader and produced our own ammo. Hogdon H4831 ($1.95/lb ,speer bullets and CCI primers). More than adequate results on paper, cans, jacks, etc. Only reloading primer detonation I've ever experienced w/Lee origianl dies (hammering in primers). One of my best shots ever on running jack at 75/100 yds. Can't remember what I did with that gun -- think I traded it for something or got stolen w/a bunch of other stuff. Anyway, with all that said, I don't care for the Rem 600 (and I had another one 30 yrs later -- nostalgia I guess). For me, aside from the aesthetics (butt ugly), they are way to heavy and the ones I've had are only adequate accuracy wise. This is not ment to offend anyone, and I hope you will take it for what it's worth. By the way, I'd love to do a "gopher" safari with Bob, Mackey, Sixshot, Callshot, etc. -- I'll even buy the seeds. FWIW, Paul

Anyway, we bought the 600s, mounted the then new Weaver variable 2x-8x (can't remember exactly). The scopes had external adjustments -- no turret mounted knobs. Sounds like a Weaver V8. I've got one an a sporter 03-A3 and the scope was probably 80% of the reason I bought the rifle in the first place. I'll see if I can find pics of it in this infernal machine. Local shop has a late production (new production?) 660 in 6.5 RM. I like it but the caliber doesn't grab me. Told the counter guy that if it was 6.5 Swede it'd be leaving with me. He said if it was 6.5 Swede he'd have bought it before it ever hit the display. I'd really like a 600 or 660 someday just because I like the design but I'm nor sure what caliber I want to look for.
