Out making my rounds today at the local swappin' spots and had not found a thing of any real interest when I stopped at "Honest Bobs"(yes it is the real name) gun shop.
Bobs is kind of a gun shop/swap shop/pawn shop/junk shop/black hole all rolled into one place.
It is the only gun shop I know of that had a shop cat, shop dog AND a shop goat, couple this menagerie with a gun vault made out of the old bars from a century old county lockup, a coffee pot from the 1880's, a pool table from the 50's that can only be played on if you throw the cat outside. The place scares off most people but I feel oddly at home there. If I can get Bob to agree someday I'll post pictures.
Anyway, in the middle of the lie swappin',coffee drinkin' and gun fondlin' I showed up with something Ol' Honest Bob can't resist- a Beretta AL-390 shotgun in good but not perfect condition, very clean in the original box. Most of us think this italian fetish comes either from a young lady from Bobs youth in Chicago, or the fact he loves spagetti and pizza and just expanded that love to include Eytie shotguns.
I really wasn't looking for anything in particular but Bob knows my likes and dislikes- 10mm 1911s, short bbl. N-frames, short bbl. Ruger bigbores, Ithaca shotguns as well as a few others.
After checking out his cases and racks I really didn't see anything that I wanted to pick up, but Bob had already begun to get the vapors over the scattergun. When I pointed out that I really didn't see anything he hopped up and mumbled while he scurried into the back. A few minutes later he emerged with my new revolver.
He brought out a JP Sauer & Sohn Chief Marshal in .44 magnum with a 6in. barrel and adjustable sights in excellent condition, light turn line and just a little blueing loss probably from holster carry, and some nice wood grips. (yes, I will post pictures asap.) After much coffee, much more haggleing and an offer of the shop goat as boot on the deal the Marshal came home with me.
A range report and pictures will be forthcoming within the next few days, right now i've got to look up BBQ goat recipes.
