Loading experience comes not from the time or from the number of rounds loaded. But, from the different cartridges and a variety of bullet weights or types of loadind for small game, target,, medium game and or large including dangerious game. And a variety of cartridges. FWIW dept.

It's funny how a lot of people complain about posting pics, then there's guys like Subsonic that grab the book, scan, post photos and enlighten us all. I love this forum and the 45!

Ditto what everyone else has to say - stick with the .45 Colt and you can't go wrong. I've been using mine for > 15 years now. It started off with one, now I have... several! I have several .22s and a few .357s, but for big bores, while I'd love to add a bunch of other calibers to the toy box, I haven't found a compelling reason yet in the shortcomings of any of my .45 Colts. The only VALID reason I can come up with so far for adding another calibers is "because it's different" which is certainly reason enough. Someday I will. For now, I'm happy with my .45s.

The .45 is a MUCH better choice than the 44...
you will be fine with medium to light loads for a long time but a full case of 296 and anything over 300grs will push back.
Those "medium" loads that you can hit everytime with is really all you need...the numbers (velocity, bullet weight, bullet design) don't matter at all when you miss. Accuracy is king, penetration is queen and the rest is angels dancing on pinheads....
you'll have fun, gas on it!

I started out loading for 44 mag years ago and then "discovered" the 45 Colt as a newbie to reloading. What a fun cartridge. I load 200gr swc's (45 acp boolit) on up to a 355gr WFN. I shoot all loads in several different guns including a 454 levergun and they are all accurate. You're not "in over your head". You "nailed in on the head" by going with the 45 Colt!

Were it not for the guidance and advice of all the fellahs on this site, I probably would never have started reloading. I am over 50 and started only about 8-10 years ago, very late in life. On their advice I started with straight walled pistol cartridges and chose the .45 ACP and the .45 Colt. To this day, those are still the pistol cartridges I load and shoot the most. For me personally, the .45 Colt is the most versatile of all pistol cartridges because of the range of loads. The "Mice to Moose" tag is pretty much literal. While I have never shot a mouse or a moose with a .45 I know that I could.
